Doesn't sound any worse than what Lance Stephenson did to his girlfriend and not only is he not in prison, but Larry and the Pacers brass allowed him to stay on the team.

These charges..................................guilty to robbery, assault, kidnapping and intimidation of the victim should have resulted in a heck of a lot more time than 3 yrs. The prosecutor did him a favor by letting him plead or his a$$ would have been up the river for a whole lot longer than 3 yrs.

He's 17 with no priors. Those are all likely lower class felonies that carry less time and no mandatory prison sentence. The sentences for each charge would be served concurrently. In short, people get sentenced for what they did, not for the number of charges they face for the same crime. He beat and kicked her. People get off with probation all the time for such acts. Not saying it's right, but they do. And few get more than three years in prison. Rightly or wrongly, the judge made an example of this kid.

This summary of his actions reads just like a number of the Class 3 and 4 felony batteries I covered in Illinois over the years. Those guys never did serious time:

Surveillance video, obtained by the Fox 8 I-Team, shows Farmer striking 18-year-old Andrea Lane in the head, and then continuing to strike and kick her as she cowered in a corner and pleaded for him to stop. But police say he then dragged her outside by the hair and continued to assault her.

Then, when she tried to get back inside the apartment building, he attacked her again, tried to pull her outside and later kicked her in the head four times.
