I have heard that in the first inning he did hit 97. For much of the game, he had to rely on his fastball a lot as hit breaking stuff wouldn't cross the plate. Perhaps that's part of the reason they couldn't hit him is that he wasn't logically predicable some of the time. The Shockers' pitching coach, Brent Kremnitz, had a show after the game on KNSS and he talked about Petricka in glowing terms, asking why he was still in college. Yes he knew that Petricka was drafted last year in the 34th round, but he said this is a "pro guy" and that he would actually be talking him up to pro scouts. Kremnitz, who had been at Wichita State for 32 years, was also amazed at the poise Jake had even when he was in dire straights in the sixth and eighth innings. Kremnitz said, "We couldn't solve him." He called Petricka "outstanding." WSU pitcher Jordan Cooper's steller performance was overlooked and he was tagged with the loss. Kremnitz said this was "a very good college baseball game." The Shockers were embarrassed by Nebraska Tuesday night in a 14-0 shutout against several pitchers who didn't have Petricka's stuff. Last night, Petricka dominated them legitimately.
