Folks, although this should be a sweep weekend, The Sycamores need to treat it seriously and to work on hitting and pitching. Having said that, from a lot of experience in following baseball, playing down (less challenging teams) can give one a false sense of security. Nebraska-Omaha is 11-30 on the season. We've got THREE tough conference coming in the next three weekends!

Here's the preview story for this weekend's three-game series. Game One is Friday at 4:00 (moved from 6:30 due to weather expected to move in).

REMEMBER, there is free audio and video on-line for this series, but no play-by-play radio. Here's the link to the FREE SycamoreVision feed:

And a "hot" pitcher can make any good team look foolish when they really have their stuff working. The article in today's newspaper says it all.................

GO SYCAMORES !

Here's the link to the article ISU TREE FAN referred to. It IS very good and points out what can happen to a very good team:

http://tribstar.com/collegesports/x...tive-ISU-s-vets-have-2009-as-window-into-2012

The 2009 team was a better hitting team than 2012's and was explosive...something that the 2010 had more of also. Hitting carried the team in 2009. Hitting and pitching were more balanced in 2010. This year, pitching is carrying the team with timely hitting. Enough bats to get the job done.

Interesting background on Nebraska-Omaha. Last year, they were a pretty normal Division II team with about half their games at home and a member of the MIAA conference. They went 35-20 last season. This season, they have no conference, no home field (only four games in Omaha at various sites) and few wins (now 11-30). I'd love to know what happened?!

O.K. Got the 411 on the league situation and the fact that they are becoming a D-I program:

• Nebraska Omaha is in its first year as a reclassifying Division I school in 2011-12 and will officially join The Summit League next year with a full conference schedule in 2013. Prior to the reclassification, UNO was a part of the Division II Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).

So, why are they not playing "home" games?

BTW, one of their 11 wins is against Creighton.

Well, perhaps this scathing report from ESPN will shed some light. After agreeing to move to the D-I Summit League, the athletic director and the school chancellor announced that they were getting rid of it's wrestling program which that day had just won it's THIRD STRAIGHT national D-II championship and also the football program. Neither sport is represented in the Summit League! Perhaps the whole athletic department is shaken by the lack of communication between the coaches and the administration. Here's that video report:

In their quest to move to D-1 they were mentioned as a school interested in joining the Missouri Valley Football Conference. There was a half hour show on the radio (ESPN) telling about the university of nebraska ,which they are a part of, requiring them to drop football if they moved up. Maybe the same thing applied to wrestling. It's either that or they got one of our old athletic directors.:imslow::eek7:
