I don't know how long the team has been doing this, because I've had to miss a few games due to medical issues, but I want to give a shout out to our team and the staff. I first noticed this at the Loyola game, and saw it again yesterday at Hulman Center. My parents saw it at the Missouri State game last week. It's a first class move.
What am I babbling on about? After the national anthem, while the other team, and most of the people in the crowd, returned to their seats, our team and staff stood, silently and almost reverently, until our flag was off the floor. Now, I've known that that was proper protocol for years, and I stand until the flag is off the floor, but I have never, NEVER, seen any sports team correctly follow that protocol. Until now.
It's a small thing, but it made me immensely proud to see our guys stand and respect the flag in the proper way. That shows class. The team's motto this year is taken from the military, "I've got your six." They are showing respect to the men from whom they borrowed the motto in a way I've never seen a team do before. I am proud of this program. They are doing things the right way. They are making a team of top flight basketball players, but these kids are learning more than basketball.
I am so proud to be a Tree. We need to make sure we've got this group's "six." They are doing us proud!!!
