These coaches are competitive and don’t take to firings well, getting paid or not. He is getting a pay day and now has financial stability. However, he will be back in football sooner or later in some capacity.
Purdue is a hard gig in football and he must not shown enough to think it’s going to get better after two years of his process of rebuilding. Purdue is seeing Indiana’s success and now has to try to keep pace.
To me players and coaches are completely different. Players have talents and capabilities that allow them to earn their money and have financial stability during and after their playing careers, not every player with abilities love the game. Coaches grind, grind, and grind some more to even make it. Coaches love and are hypothetically married to their sport. These men and women have another passion for their respective sport, with or without financial stability.
Moral of the post, while he may of gotten fired. He is not celebrating because he has financial stability.
I don’t disagree, Purdue suffered the raid of a coach leaving in today’s landscape of college athletics. The it’s hard and we know. They showed no improvement and felt there wasn’t improvement coming. They can afford to make the change.a lotta of the college football crowd doesn't remember his predecessor at west laf leaving late in the season, taking over half of the staff, a slew of plyers and recruits to louisville... walters was stepping into a hole deeper than he realized.
and far, FAR too many of the 'experts' in college football refuse to call gloomington's season a unicorn season; anything that could have went in their favor did go in their favor -- i doubt cignetti is putting up 1 loss seasons (for now) over the life of his contract, won't be surprised if the Loosiers get bounced in the 1st CFP game
any speculation that cignetti bolts for his alma mater? W.Va fired their coach today as well

Cignetti is a good football coach. I also do think they caught a massive break with scheduling and they took advantage of it. Can they win a CFP game? I don’t know and don’t care. I didn’t buy the hype that they could hang with Ohio State and they didn’t. But crazier things have happened the last two weeks of the college football season.
From a college football perspective, it will be interesting to see if he ends up a WVU. I will say one thing his current administration did do well was sign him to an extension prior to the season ending. He is one of the most intriguing coaches in college football right now and definitely has the media behind him.
All I’m saying is Purdue is feeling the landscape of college athletics and seeing a football program they are equivalent to in the Big Ten have a remarkable season and feel the need to make a change.
