Sycamore Proud

The Nicks Level
This is the opportunity you may have been waiting for. It’s open for you to voice your feelings and opinions on all things Sycamores. Pet peeve—get it out in the open; it might result in a great idea. Let all of us know if there is something you feel is really positive about ISU or SP. Negative posts are welcome; but is there ever anything negative about State? You have ideas for making things better? Cool, let us know. There is nothing too small or trivial or too large and critical. Maybe you know it is a problem, but don’t have an idea for fixing it. Someone else might. This will be a worthwhile undertaking if members participate. Feel free to jump in at anytime and as often as you like. Don't think you need to have anything earthshaking to participate in this. Want to share something you thing trivial? Please do; others may appreciate it.

I'll start with a cheer.

Greg Lansing.

ISU has had more than a hundred years of basketball...and in those hundred+ years, we've NEVER had 18+ wins four years in a row; until Greg Lansing took over as head coach.

This guy may be from Iowa, but he is a SYCAMORE through and through. Two stints as Asst Coach and then taking over the reigns as head coach, to lead us to our first NCAA appearance in ten years.

Screw you ALL who criticize Lansing. This is OUR guy and I HOPE he's at our helm for decades. And IF he ends up getting hired at a different/bigger program, more power to him...it's a business and that's all there is to it. With that said, I hope he's OUR guy deep into the 21st century.

I'll second the motion!

I do have a complaint. Back when I was a student at ISU the ladies on campus were my age or close to it. It seems that they are much younger now. Is there anything that can be done about it?

at this very moment things are going very well for ISU sports

1. Basketball teams playing well

2. Baseball off to a very surprisingly great start

3. Indoor track teams doing awesome as usual and both should be favored to win indoor MVC titles next week at UNI

4. Football seems to have had a good recruiting class

5. Softball is just getting started, so not sure how they're going to do.

How do we got John Wooden and his wifes name off the court at the Hulman Center? Give that distinction to someone who actually wanted to be a Sycamore!

Well Tuff it don't get any better I assure you.

Idea I have is when revamp of HC comes about " Turn the damned volume t'word the North " Forrest" and away from
the South "Petrified Forrest" so us oldies can just wonder why the kids are screaming and abusing musical insturments,
and having all that fun doin it.

Looks like Paul Lusk did a pretty fine job today with not much to work with.

Such blasphemy!

Just kidding. Personally, I thought it was a cheap move on our part....I mean all of sudden, towards the end of Woodens life, we sell ourselves out to give kudos to John Wooden, and for what? For all the recruits he sent our way? For all the money he donated to ISU? For all of the return visits he made to the campus?

And why in the world did we include his wife's name too? What did she do for us, or give to ISU all of those years that she lived the good life in sunny Southern California? Was she sewing Sparkette uniforms in her spare time, and having bake sales to raise money for Basketball uniforms?

I'm glad you brought this up, cuz every time I see their names on OUR court, I just want to win the Hoosier Lotto so bad to make a big enough donation to the university and the Athletic Department, that I get to be the first, to scrape their names off!

Coach Wooden insisted that her name be with his if it was to be put on the surface at all. UCLA's court is done the exact way, "Nellie and John Wooden Court" at his request. As for why it took so long, I really don't know. Not sure why you dislike putting arguably the best coach in college history's name on our court but even though it was decades late, I am proud that his two schools, ISU and UCLA added them as a tribute to him right around the same time. And by the way, he did donate to ISU and also some priceless items of memorabilia that will be prominently displayed in a special location after the HC renovation.

Let's see now? Teams we don't want to see at Arch Madness......EVANSVILLE, MISSOURI STATE, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS? Surely there are two or three more that can be added to that list? What do they all have in common? One or two good players and a coach not afraid to use a zone that absolutely sends our coaches and players into shock. Thinking its going to be a quick trip to St. Louis this time around and don't need a room or at best anymore than one for Friday night only.

Agree---Arch Madness is wide open! As I see it---there is WS---------------and then a distant everyone else---capable of defeating each other or any given night. We are not as good a team as our record indicates and will struggle with other teams --on a neutral court--that will no doubt throw the zone at us!
We have not gotten better as a team-----and appear to be unhitched at this time! Is it the end of Feb again----here we go!
Hope I'm wrong but not convinced yet-----!

I never said he wasn't the best coach in college basketball....AT UCLA.....and what does his umpteen decades of success there, have to do with his pipsqueak amount of time at ISU...yes he had great success here from 1946 - 1948 (two seasons) but to put his name our court for that, is just selling out.

The point still is, ISU looks like a bunch of chumps for trying to get some self kudos on his UCLA coat-tails....let his ISU legacy stand as is, in the history books where it belongs. If it's such a great idea, why hasn't Martinsville HS and Purdue University named their courts after him, and whoooaaaa Nellie too!

My further take on Woodens insistance that his wife's name be included, was his gentleman's way of saying..."I hope you catch my drift, I don't want my name on your court"...were just too dumb to read between the lines.

Well you know there is a small bright side to the MSU loss. I'm not goiing to be at all interested and conserned with at-large- bid discussions.

Well I sure as hell am not going to change that opinion and that's fine with me. I often think that the university doesn't pay enough attention to it's history. I personally think it is harmless and since it was added, I have NEVER heard it mentioned other than 2-3 of the national games we have had at HC and it was represented positively and respectful. I certainly don't agree that we were a bunch of chumps to do it for him but hey, we've got a lot more issues we should be discussing and if you think we are chumps, that's fine with me because personally, I think it is just fine and not worth fretting over. I was very critical of the "first" effort to put their signature on floor (it looked like it was written by someone actually 95 or so) but when they installed a new floor, it was cleaned up a bit. Beyond that, I am much more worried about the team that PLAYS on that floor.

Have you seen the records of the other Valley teams away from home this season? Dont start giving them all too much credit. We are still a better team than most, we are just struggling with our shooting and our confidence right now.

I am predicting the MVC will have two teams in the NCAA tournament. It might not be the Sycamores, but I think somebody is gonna take down the Shockers Sat or Sun.
