The leading rebounder in the league last season was Illinois State's Jackie Carmichael with a 9.7 per game average. Guard Jake Odum was #10 in rebounding with 5.9 per game. Do we have anyone on the roster that can take the challenge and grab the bull by the horns and make a concentrated effort to grab 10 or more per game ? Jimmy Cruse, all of 6'3 or 6'4 and a heck of a rebounder, where are you ??????????????????

Finally a voice of reason.

Yes we need a rebounder or several and I'm very curious to see who steps up to accept that challenge.

The one thing I would stress if anyone ever made the mistake of making me a head coach, would be to FOLLOW YOUR SHOT. If every shooter followed his shot on every shot, I'm convinced we'd have 20-30% more rebounds every game. Even 10-15% more rebounds would be huge.

Wow! What a concept. At the middle school and high school level it seems that many younger coaches have no idea what that means or that it is legal.

Arop will be a rebounder and Gant has the ability.

What if a PG pulls up from 17ft in the middle and the other 4 guys are either in the lane or on the baseline....you follow your shot, don't get it, and the other team is laying it in on the other end! Rebounding is an art....most players have a knack for going and getting the ball....the other good rebounders that don't have that knack learn it by playing for Izzo! You have to be balanced to be a good shooter....so I wouldn't want my shooter thinking follow his shot right on the release.

If you play this game at this level and are any kind of a shooter about 75% (by my estimate),,you know if it is going in or not. soooo follow your shot all those doubtful times.

Unless you are told to get back on D at the shot, you should crash the boards. It's common for good scorers to get second chance points because they follow their shots.

I'm happy to play the What If game....what if in the same scenario, the PG's shot hits the back of the rim and there's a long rebound toward the PG and the PG gets his rebound cuz he followed his shot.

I'm not saying that following your shot is never going to have its drawbacks...but I would rather a player err on the side of always following his shot than err on the side of never following his shot.

10 or more per game in college basketball is pretty rare. I'd be happy with an interior player, or two, who can grab 7-8 per game.

I think our lack of rebounding, or the perceived lack of rebounding going into the season, is our #1 issue. We have a lot of unknowns with this team, and how newcomers like Arop, Smith, etc. attack the glass will be very important. I don't think we need one particular player to grap 8-10 boards a game, but our team rebounding statistics wil be a primary indicator of our sucess or failure.

Let's face it, we may not be a great offensive team. If we allow other teams to get extra chances on offense becuase we are poor defensive rebounders, we will be in serious trouble.

I agree with you 100% it is more important to have multiple guys averaging 6-7 than one averaging 9-10. If the we only have one averaging 9-10 and they get injured then we are in trouble, we need team rebounding.
