As we continue to analyze why we have late season shortfalls, I don't agree with a lot of you who say we have had the "talent" to earn us a spot in the NCAA tournament. When we continue to have Division II players (Kitchell and Eitel) and Gonzaga castoff (Arop) on our roster you have to question our recruiting. I know we can't land the 4-star players that go to major schools ,but we should expect hard nosed, fundamentally sound players that don't have any problem competing at the mid-major level.
Recruiting is a hard job. We need our coaches (recruiters) to be well received throughout the state of Indiana and elsewhere. Maybe it's time to reevaluate who is doing the recruiting and how our resources are being utilized.
My guess is that we don't devote enough money to recruiting due to budget restraints.
If that is the case, then we've got the "talent" that we've paid for!

Your post was all logical except this statement. I'm sure the staff has at least weekly meetings to go over recruiting needs, notes and strategy. That is their job and I trust that they are doing the best they can.

That should be a given........they should be having weekly meetings etc. And, they may be doing the best they can. My point is that maybe someone can be doing it better. If you are trying as hard as you can and it continues to provide mediocrity, then we shouldn't be disappointed in not going to the NCAA with the big boys.

I would bet that the budgets of most of the NCAA at-large teams are substantially larger than ours. I guess the question is does more recruiting money bring in better players. Don't forget, we are on a 4-yr 18-win streak that we have NEVER had before. I guess one would have to say that we are doing something right.

How about we just win the games that are on tv? How about we just win all the games? In all reality do you think players go to Louisville or UNC or Duke because of the education they're going to recieve? Or do you think that they go there because of the name of the school and the history of success? We've done a hell of a job these last 4 years completely turning this program around. I think this question should be brought up again 4 years from now and see what happens. That would essentially give them 8 years to see where the program is going. I think next year might be a statement year to see how we do with new faces. I know Tre Bennett won't be here until next year but he seems like a pretty solid JuCo recruit. Brenton and Alex Etherington seemed pretty touted too. Hell Alex decomitted from Kansas or Kansas state to come to ISU. That should mean something right there.

If we are witnessing mediocrity then I would like about 20 more years of it. Some of you just don't know how to appreciate anything. You read one thread and our coach sucks. In this one, apparently the players suck. Well our sucky team currently has 21 wins. Let's pack Hulman Center tomorrow and show our appreciation to our team of sucky players and coaches who have greatly overachieved several years in a row.

Everyone is disappointed because we know how close we were. After looking at the won/loss stats since the Bird years it is amazing how many years of below mediocrity we had. Most years we were in the play in game at Arch Madness. Now we have 4 years of unprecedented W/L percentage. Our coaches are better including upgrading talent. Its nice now we can rant about flaws when we are top of the Valley.I like these last 4 years than any other stretch for 4 years since Bird and am hoping they continue. Now, at least, at times we are in a National discussion. By the way, Belmont is 20-8 and US today picked them as a team that possibly could make noise in March Madness. Great coach and he had to restock this year as he lost most of last scoring. Just win this last game.
