Highly debatable, remember John Wooden coached in Indiana, as did Everett Dean, Everett Case and more

Right they were also great coach’s but their wins were namely at schools outside the state of Indiana. I don’t know who you mean by “more”. Aside from his arrogance and confidence I can’t think of a better coach! I would put Wooden as the best coach ever but again that’s because of his record at UCLA, not in Indiana.

With the expectation of Slick, there is no comparison. For Slick his greatness came as a result of his professional basketball coaching career not from college.

McCutchan won 5 collegiate titles, winning consecutive titles on 2 occasions, he also had an undefeated season AND was a gentleman.

There isn't the time to list all of RMKs abuses

Interesting that you now quality your statement were collegiate tenures

I thought we were discussing coaching not “abuses”.

Those who knock him, need to check the flags hanging in Assembly Hall. He did a lot of good aswellas bad.

 he won one time in the most recent 'variant' of the NCAA and even THAT was 30+ years ago

mccracken also won, though under different formats

I can think of one thing that prick did "right,"... he DIDN'T "chase" Larry Bird in 1974. As to the rest of his actions? He was no more charitable than other Div I coaches in the state, across the country.

those that excuse the abuse are just as guilty as the abuser

I agree he was excessive in his lack of control with himself but it worked to a create extent in developing the discipline to develop his players to play at their full potential, which again made him a great coach. Not the best person, which did not concern him, as we are all individuals.

Really? You ever read Georgia Bird's thoughts on Larry staying in gloomington? She knew full well that Larry would NOT have been the player he became, in glooomington, he'd have been a square peg hammered into a round hole; at State, he was allowed to grow, develop under King, Hodges, et al to be one of the greatest players in the history of the game

McCracken was truly biased and not in a positive sense and “guilty as the abuser” is nonsense. We know Knight was not a “knight” but he could Coach basketball. You really don’t like him and it seems personal. The good, the bad, and the ugly!

I’ve never given it that much thought, good point.

Knight could never let the game, or his players, be the focus. Everything was about him. His hypocrisy has consistently been stunning, as he demanded others meet expectations that he himself failed to meet. Who knows how successful he might’ve been had he had the ability, or willingness, to treat others as he himself insisted that he be treated. Great X’s & O’s guy whose potential could’ve been far greater had he conducted himself with a measure of mutual respect and dignity.
