SB at Bradley Wednesday

Another big DH for softball Wednesday in Peoria as they travel to take on the 9th place Braves. Big league DH on Monday also in Normal - as the Redbirds host Southern Illinois in a DH. Current Standings:

2. SIU 13-6
3. Drake 12-8
4. UNI 13-10
5. Illinois State 10-10
6. Missouri State 8-9
7. Indiana State 9-11
8. Wichita State 9-13
9. Bradley 7-12
10. Evansville 3-17

If things fall right during the week, we could go into the weekend alone in 5th place. If they don't go right, we could go into the weekend tied for 8th.

I don't know the status of Sr. SS Mere Simpson who was hurt on Saturday, but if she doesn't play, it certainly will make things more difficult. From watching the injury in person, I'd be suprised if she does play. She would be a significant loss. Even if she doesn't bat again for the rest of the year, she will finish her career with the following Sycamore records:

-20 HR - 1st All Time
-.356 Career BA - 2nd All Time
-593 At Bats - 2nd All Time
-77 RBIs - 3rd All Time
-31 Doubles - Tied for 4th All Time

With 5 conference games to play, we have 9 conference wins so far this season - which is more than each of the past two seasons. If you total up the last four seasons so far, we have 34 conference wins in those four seasons. It took us the previous 11 seasons to get to that many conference wins!

Tough break for ISU today in Normal, as the DH between Southern Illinois at Illinois State gets rained out. They started game one and SIU was leading 2-0 going into the top of the 4th when the game was cancelled. If the Redbirds dropped some games today, it could have helped us in the standings.

Regardless, winning some games on Wednesday will improve our lot significantly.

Without Simpson in the line-up today, the Sycamores really struggle offensively, dropping both games of the DH at Bradley by 2-0 scores. Bradley uses the same pitcher for all 14 innings, and she throws a 2 hitter in game one with 12 Ks and a 1 hitter in game two with 7 Ks. Bradley only gets 5 hits in the opener and 4 in game two, but they cross the plate. Sr. Katie Armour went into the DH with 6 strikeouts in 117 ABs all year, but she struck out 3 times today.
So - the worst case scenario comes through, and we are in a tie for 8th going into the weekend. Current standings:
