The Sycamore Level
The MVC season starts this weekend for softball, as the Sycamores travel to Omaha to take on Creighton. Creighton has won the last three regular season MVC titles and were the pre-season selection to win again this year. They feature the three time MVC Pitcher of the Year in Sr. Tara Oltman and the returning MVC Player of the Year in Sr. Renae Sinkler. Scheduled for a DH on Saturday and a single game on Sunday - but the forecast for Saturday isn't favorable to play at all (High temp of 35 and snow in the forecast). Creighton typically provides GameTracker for all contests.
This is also the sibling rivalry among the head coaches, as Creighton head coach Brent Vigness is the brother of ISU coach Brenda Coldren. These teams played five games a year ago with Creighton winning three of the five - including a 5-4 victory in the MVC Semi-finals.

Saturday contests were not played in Omaha due to snow and cold. They are trying to play a DH today - but the forecast still might not get warm enough for the league's minimum temperature standard. Not a single series in the league got all the games in this weekend.
Drake at Illinois State - no games played
UNI at Wichita State - one game played
Evansville at Bradley - two games played
Southern Illinois at Missouri State - two games played

SB drops two to the league favorite Creighton today in Omaha 6-0 in game one and 6-5 in game two. Cold day, with wind chills in the mid 30s. Apparently, the strike zone was tight, as the Sycamores walked 10 Bluejay batters in game one and 7 in game two. This coming from a team that had allowed an average of just over 2 walks per contest up to this point. Maybe some home cooking involved, although Jay pitching walked us 8 times in game one and 2 times in game two. ISU stranded 12 runners in the opener, and hit two homeruns in game two. Three time MVC Pitcher of the Year Oltman gets both wins for Creighton. McCurdy loses game one and Beisser loses game two for ISU. Reigning MVC Player of the Year Sinkler for Creighton hits two homeruns on the day. Sycamores are now 11-8 and host 16-5 Butler on Wedensday for a DH.
