SycEm

The Sycamore Level
Softball home opener this weekend as they host the Bears in a 3 game MVC series. Doubleheader starts Saturday at 12 noon; single game Sunday at 12 noon. FREE ADMISSION to all home softball games at Price Field.
Sycamores have won 4 in a row to get to 8-9 on the season - including winning the last two of the series at Wichita State last weekend. Those two wins in Wichita were the first wins in Wichita since the 2000 season. ISU sits at 2-1 in the MVC while Missouri State comes in a deceiving 0-3. These two teams split a DH last year in Springfield with the third game canceled due to poor weather.

Softball drops both ends of a DH today, losing game one in heartbreaking fashion by a 4-3 score and then dropping game two 4-0. In game one, ISU took a 3-1 lead into the 7th, only to see the Bears push 3 unearned runs across all with two outs to steal the game. Lead-off batter reached on an error to start the inning for the Bears. Sycamores strand 8 base-runners in the contest to Missouri State's 2. Darcy Wood strikes out 11 in the complete game loss. In game two, Sycamore bats go cold, as ISU only manages three hits - two of them lead-off doubles that lead to nothing. Meagan McCurdy did return to see some action in the circle in game two, throwing the last four innings and allowing a single run. Sycamores need to win game three tomorrow at noon.
If ISU wins, they can be in no worse than tied for fourth in the conference standings.

Softball struggles to hit the ball again on Sunday, dropping a close 2-0 contest to the Bears and get swept in the series. Pitching was fine, as Wood went 6 innings allowing 3 hits and striking out 8. McCurdy comes in for the final frame and allows three singles but no runs. Defense was shaky one inning to help the Bears get a run, but the offense struggled all day. Sycamores only struck out 3 times, but hit the ball right at people all day long, managing only 2 base hits.
Need to get the bats working again when they head to Bradley this weekend.
