The Blue Level
I just hope the people of Terre Haute realize how special Shakir's abilities actually are. I truly believe that he should be the example for any young athlete out there who is trying to make it in sports. Throughout his life the young man has repeatedly been told what he can and cant do simply based on his size. A lot of people get frustrated and angry when in that situation, but he made the decision to believe in himself when most people wrote him off. I felt like a proud parent when he scored that touchdown at IU last night because based on his pre-game comments, you could tell how much last night meant to him. He'd said he always wanted to score in that stadium, and through his hard work and dedication, he made it happen. For that, he deserves a standing ovation.
A lot of time in life and sports we as fans go overboard and complain and nitpick, which is part of being a fan, but today I think it's important to take a moment and realize how lucky ISU and it's fans are to have the privilege to watch this young man play.
