We've thrown around the idea of the Big Ten adding notre dame to their rolls...

So, let's hash out this idea>

Should the MVC expand, say adding a school that doesn't play football and one that does (all other MVC sports being equal)

Who could / should / would it be?

St Louis?
Butler?
Eastern Illinois?
SE Missouri?
Southern Illinois -- Edwardsville?
UTennessee-Martin?
Murray State?

The Valley shouldn't expand unless a school that offers an unusually high level overall athletic program comes calling. I don't think there's anything wrong with the current membership. The double-round-robin format of the regular season is a big plus in my opinion. No changes in my mind...of course, if Memphis wanted back in (once they're off probation...)...

If we had to expand, I'd look first at the Dakota schools we just added for football...but I don't want to expand...

Don't expand to 11. That's just a scheduling mess. If they do expand, Eastern Illinois and Butler would be great, but I don't know how much those schools are even looking to make a move. How are the Dakota schools and Western Illinois in basketball? It would be nice if with the major sports we could have more consistency. The MVC football lineup is very different from the line up for other sports.

Were they to expand, it would have to be 2 schools in the MVC to keep an even number for scheduling ease; naturally, one of those schools would need to play football at the MVFC level, again for scheduling ease.

Butler wouldn't be a bad option as the 'non-football' school OR they could 'step it up' and play MVFC football.

While the Dakota schools sound good because of MVFC football, I'd prefer Western Illinois or Youngstown State OVER the Dakotas. Shoot for the time / money saved in travel.

The conference(s) can stand pat as far as I'm concerned; I think 10 is a great number for MBB (9 round robin games) leaves ample non-conference scheduling options such as the Pre-Season NIT, the MVC/Mtn West Challenge, the BracketBusters Series and then traditional matchups such as ISUM and Buttler.

No reason to expand BUT if we did...Butler,Murray State and Western Kentucky would be my top teams. All three would make the MVC even more an emerging basketball power conference.

Strike through Western Kentucky

They won't come back; they 'upgraded' the football team to the FBS, all sports are SunBelt

no way

There isnt any way the mo val is expanding any time soon!:sycamores:

Butler would be cool to have for basketball and they've really revived their football program. But I'm content with where it is.

I think Butler will has a way to go to compete in the MVFC. I know they are improving but last year I saw them lose to D-III Franklin College, who was good for D-III, but come on...Their football facility is an absolute joke too..

Landrus, you are on a bad streak here. Memorial Stadium is MUCH MUCH better than what Butler has to offer. Butler has one TINY section of wooden bleachers that stretch MAYBE 20 years.Memorial stadium also has brand new FieldTurf. Get your facts straight......I can't believe I am letting you get under my skin, but if you want to post, please, I beg you, post something intelligent once in awhile.

There was a rumor when I was on campus back in '65 that Northwestern was going to drop out of the Big 10 and State was going to replace them. I'm serious.

The Rumor of all Rumors

There was a rumor when I was on campus back in '65 that Northwestern was going to drop out of the Big 10 and State was going to replace them. I'm serious.

:krazy: Have never heard a crazier rumor...

Did have a friend from RHIT tell me that the State Trustees told the Hulmans to 'get lost' when the Hulmans wanted to leave the family fortune to State; the Hulmans only had 2 conditions.

1) State would have to re-locate to present site of RHIT
2) The university would have to be re-named to Hulman Univ / Hulman State Univ

The only problems w/ this scenario; the timelines didn't work out; i.e. when the Hulmans
gave their $$$ to RHIT, when Rose Poly re-located from Wabash and 7th? 8th? 9th St to current location...

The Hulman State Sycamores, can you imagine :eek7:

:sycamores::sycamores:

Hulman Univ sounds better! Though I don't think the Hulman's ever offered the $$$.

I have a copy of "History of ISTC, 1865-1945" -- there's little to zero mentions of the Hulmans; I've also heard that 1-2 of the History Faculty is working on a Vol II of ISU History OR a complete 1865-Present volume.

Once that's finished, let's see if the 'rumor' is true!

If the Missouri Valley does expand they'd have to become a Divison 1-A in Football and have Drake come with them.

The teams with the best chance of going to the Valley would be Butler and Western Kentucky (who hasn't been mentioned yet). The North and South Dakota State are possibilties, but I don't think they could fit in the Valley. Eastern Illinois and Valpariso are other minor possibilties. If it became a power conference, than Saint Louis and Tulsa might go back, but that is a very little chance....
