The Odum Level
With McKenna gone and Lansing the presumed hire, are you going to change your expectations for the Sycamores next year? Do we do the same as you expected; better, worse?

If every play that is supposed to be back then I think our record should be better than last years. Simple as that.

Agreed. If we have all the same players expected to be there.....then expectations for a 20 win season haven't changed.

Absolutely!

This has been the standard:

2007-2010 Kevin McKenna (basketball) (Creighton) 43 - 52 .453 // 24-30 (.444)

Lansing (or whomever they announce tomorrow :eyeroll: ) MUST SURPASS this mark.

1. No.
2. Who knows, but I expect improvement. It wouldn't surprise me if the system stayed pretty similar to what McKenna had in place offensively...three years is a good amount of time to invest into that system as a player and a coach, so it would make sense to run with what was working if we're staying in house coaching wise. With that in mind, the program should continue to improve...over .500 in the conference (top 5 finish) and 20 wins are my hope along with at least a Saturday appearance in St. Louis.

I am feeling 3rd in conference regular season and we will win the MVC Tourney for the 13 seed in the NCAA Tourney. I will go ahead and fill out that portion of my bracket saying #13 Indiana State over #4 Oregon.

Short Term: I think that this season the Sycamores will play inspired basketball behind the senior leadership of Jake Kelly and make a drastic improvement. 1st or 2nd place in the MVC.

Long Term: If the hire is indeed Lansing, I see us taking a step back from our current course. I want to believe in him but I cannot at thos point in time. I think we will be hiring a new coach by 2014.

One interesting thought here. If our team would end up 1st or 2nd, How can you NOT think that Greg wasn't a good choice. For God's sake, hardly anyone expected our team to end up in that position with the old coach. That's optimism for sure, but if we got to that level in the conference, he'd be coach of the year in the midwest and maybe the country! Please explain. That would certainly not reflect A STEP BACKWARDS~

Yep!

Just as I have for the last 31 years, I expect ISU to finish 1st in every sport. If they don't, I will continue to take a seat and watch, dreaming of the time when they do.

With McKenna now gone my expectations for this year's teams have dropped. I don't see this team finishing better than 5th and this team will struggle with a coach that has never coached a Division 1 program in his life.

I'm not worried about Lansing's ability to coach. He's been an assistant long enough, including in the Big 10, to do that part of the job well.

I worry we will suffer a drop off, but it's not about McKenna as much as it is replacing Harry Marshall. Hopefully, Jake Kelly is back to full strength and we'll pick up right where we left off this year.

I never claim to be an expert when it comes to hoops or coaching, but unless Coach L. decides to start over and completely overhaul the system, why should there be a significant step backwards? This should be a seamless transition and several people have eluded that there were trust issues with K-Mac and some of the players and that they may feel more confident with Greg. My guess is that Coach will grab the bull by the horns, dig in, and things should go rather smoothly.

The biggest issue as I see it, is being short-handed personnel-wise until they hire a new assistant coach. Anyone else think we are making too big a deal out of this? Maybe I just don't get it!

That logic is flawed. Just because someone is a first time coach doesn't mean they will struggle. Prime example: Brad Stevens.

I agree with you, Bally. This should be the smoothest transition we've seen since Hodges took over from King. It will be interesting to see who Greg brings in to fill the "recruiter" role on the staff. At least, that's what Golden said he'd need to do.

It's a good time to be a Sycamore!!!

Brad Stevens stepped into a team that was molded by Lickliter. So Lickliter was obviously a better recruiter than you give him credit for.
