just an idea....but what would people think aboout adding a terre haute baseball hall of fame to the mix at the new baseball stadium?????

the city has had a long history of producing outstanding baseball talent, several who have moved on to play at indiana state.....tommy john, "three-fingered" mordacai brown, max carey would be the legends who didnt play at isu....but should also be honored.....

just an idea.....

It seems as though pictures of the elite players coming out of the program would be an almost given. It would be inspiring to the players and very interesting for the fans. I think I would keep it to players that actually moved on into the pros from Indiana State and those who hold various baseball records at the school.

Let's start w/ State Alumni...

Are there any current plans to recognize past Sycamore greats?

Are you thinking of something more than a wall and photos/plaques?

Where would it be located? From the plans at GoSycamores.com, it's difficult to
identify a potential area -- what have other schools built?

perhaps plaques along a wall in the stadium....

and i still think it should be former isu players....AND terre haute natives who have had great major league careers...like tommy john, mordacai brown and max carey.....because of terre haute's long history of producing baseball talent....it would be a way to bring both the city's and the university's sports histories together in a prominent way....

There are post probably weekly that state "Terre Haute is not engaged with ISU" here is the opprotunity to Acknowledge some of the all time great Baseball players to ever come from Terre Haute . To show that Terre Haute and Indiana State have a great working relationship with one another. However we have people who say No this is an ISU stadium . Well attitudes like that is why a Josh Phegley goes to IU . Why a Cole Vicars chose to go down to Mississippi to play at Alcorn State . Why Max Hutson went to god forsaken Witchita State. A new stadium is not the fix all its a start but you have to bridge the gap between Terre Haute and ISU .

i appreciate the vote of confidence...lol

I agree with you we need to have something like this . Lets face it a good majority of the people who will attend games at the new stadium are Terre Haute residents weather they are ISU alum or not . Very few of the Alumni that live a good distance will attend more than a couple of games a year .Lets make it attractive to more than just the average supporter of Sycamore athletics. I want to sell tickets to all to Sycamore athletics to be attractive to all . I want to replace the IU shirts and License plates with sycamore apparel . It is a sad sight when the Loosers came to town and there was more red in the building than blue. Its my understanding that possibly more than Indiana State will be playing in this stadium why not capitalize on the publicity these individuals can bring to the University and city .

glad somebody thinks that i might know a thing or two....

after i worked in indiana state's athletic department for over 20 years.

Always look fwd to your posts

You have an obvious love for Sycamore football; I love college football (why it's frustrating to watch the Trees this last several seasons)

I know football is expensive; that's why it won't be fixed overnight.

Hopefully, in the near future, the tennis programs can be reinstated and (crazy talk) additional sports added.

I agree that we should honor all players...

Perhaps there could be a separate area...one wall for ISU grads and another wall for Terre Haute area guys who didn't attend ISU. I agree that it shows a lot of character to include all the players and not be bitter over the fact that some chose another school. It really will help to bridge the gap between the school and the community!

But if you didn't attend ISU, let's just agree that you need to have accomplished something in MLB. The last thing I want to see is a bunch of people on this "Hall of Fame" because they went to IU or something...

the people i suggested...the non-isu players.....

like tommy john, max carey and mordacai brown....didn't play college ball anywhere....they went straight into pro ball right out of high school....or in the real early years...from semi-pro ball....

and yes....they had to become something.....not just sign a contract....or be drafted...honor only the best....and in tommy john, max carey and mordacai brown, you have three people who are baseball hall of fame worthy....i think carey and brown are already in cooperstown.....

Is there sufficient room in the current design for this to occur or will extra space have to be built. I am all for the idea as long as it does not drive the price of the project up dramatically.

hmm...i dont think putting up some plaques....are gonna cause a cost-overrun...lol...

at least i would hope not.....but you never know i guess about the cost on construction nowadays....lol....

I would imagine that there will be bare walls in hallways and this would be a great way to fill some of that space. I do imagine that some money would need to be raised to pay for the pictures, frames, nameplates and signs. Perhaps $2000.00?

Make sure they're weatherproof

Nothing says 'tacky' like a faded/milky-glass photo!

But something along the lines of the HoF in Hulman Center

There has to be some cost to doing this I have never seen a project get done without some expense. There is a lobby area and hallways down the right and left field lines, right? Will these hallways be totally protected from the weather elements? If not how are the photographs going to be protected? I assume that the University will help with photographs but where will the photographs come from for the non-ISU players? We need to have our ducks in a row and quacking in unison before we get to far a long here. TJames have you had discussion with anybody at the University about this?
