Bird didn't give him a warm hello or barely te time of day when he came to Terre Haute with Al McGwire to do a tv game & neither did most of us fans over comments he had made about rankings etc. that were not complimentary to the Sycamores.
He was a a good announcer but like many in his day thought the ACC was the only league in the country that mattered. He never changed his mind about that thru the years.

I thought he never came here to do our game. Didn’t they have back to back games on that day and he did the other game. I think it was at Louisville. That is when the student section made up the song ode to Billy Packer. They knew the student section was going to ride him pretty hard.
Wrong…I was in attendance and the students shouted to Packer, “We have a bird for you” or something similar referencing giving him the finger…..LOL
