Up 15 to 5 in the 7th...its been a combination of Texas Southern mistakes, turning those mistakes into runs, timely (sometimes explosive) hitting and good base running that is reminicent of last season!

Has Lucas or Pearson done anything?

So far Pearson is 0-2. Lucas is 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBI's. Single, double sacrifice fly and fly out.

Thanks. Pearson was kind of a slow starter in high school but a few games in, he would just explode. Lucas is one the best kids I know and is going to be a hoss. Ort also had a hit in the first inning. Seems like we are stocked full of some good young position players. Need to concentrate on pitching help.

Lucas and Pearson are from my high school, so it is good to see them having success at the college level.

Offensively, we ended up with 15 runs on 16 hits and we left 10 runners stranded. Feiser ended the day 4 for 6 with two runs and three RBI's. He had two singles, one double and a triple.

Final score 15-6.

Great Start

Glad to see the new coach along with all of the new players start their Sycamore careers off with a big win. Keep it up Sycamores!

Here's what Skinny Lu said last Summer about Cordell's plans:

Sycamore family and friends….

As our family is pretty active on this site I wanted to address this announcement before the rumor mill starts.

On Saturday, August 1st Cordell made the decision to not return to ISU for the 2009/2010 school year. Instead he has decided to attend Des Moines Area Community College.

After A LOT of talking with key advisors and reminding ourselves what Cordell’s ultimate goal is (to make it to the majors) we were reminded that positioning is the name of the game.

For those who aren’t familiar with Cordell’s past, the two knocks on him coming out of high school was that he didn’t go in the draft and that his GPA was only 2.45

If Cordell goes down to DMACC for this year he will be eligible to go back in the draft, giving him another look see by the pros. AND - his GPA for last year at ISU was 3.5 which would allow him to meet any Division I school admissions requirements.

We know it’s a heck of a gamble, with 90% of the work sitting on Cordell’s shoulders, but we think it’s the best one for his future.

Please know that this decision was very difficult. ISU was absolutely the best decision for Cordell coming out of high school. Indiana State is a TOP NOTCH university and baseball program.

I want to personally thank all of the player’s family members and alumni for your support of Cordell this past year. We will definitely continue to follow ISU baseball and wish them the best!!!

Warm regards,
SkinnyLu

I don't understand this move. Grades were not a problem and pitching in one of the best D-1 conferences in the country has to blow away pitching at a community college in Iowa. I would imagine the amount of scouts at a Missouri Valley Conference game is double the amount at wherever he is now. Oh, well though, we have moved on. As for this years ISU team, their game today has started. Tied 1-1 bottom 1. We have bases loaded. On a side note, I can't stand our live stats. Slow , slow and slow. If it works at all. We need Gametraker. It works much better.

Cordell's Progress

Hi Trueblue:

Cordell is doing well at DMACC. They start their season next weekend (the games for the past weekend were canceled due to rain in kansas).

His decision to go to DMACC was/is a risky one. Although to-date it has paid off. In November he signed with the the Eau Claire Express, Northwoods League summer ball team, for the 2010 summer season. To-date he has been in contact with Washington State University, Purdue University, University of Central Florida, Florida State University, University of New Mexico, Fresno State University, Ohio State University, University of Louisville, and University of North Carolina. By choosing to go to DMACC this year he also has the chance to go back in the draft at the end of this season as well as attend a larger D1 school.

I know its not the traditional path and definitely has tested his commitment, but we support his choice. But, his performance this season will tell us how good of decision it really was. :)

He is throwing well in the bullpens, with his change up and curve developing nicely (the curve probably being his best pitch). Still throwing consistently a 89 to 91 mph fast ball and touching 92.

His academics have been the most challenging. In order to graduate DMACC in the spring, and not have to attend summer school, he has had to take 19 credit hours each semester. The fall semester was a learning curve and he made it through with a 2.92. He has a jump on the spring semester and feels he can get his gpa above 3.2.

We miss ISU, the team, and the parents. Wish everyone only the best, INCLUDING Coach Heller. I like following the Trees and hope its okay that we still post on this site.

Warm regards,
Cordell's Family
