ISU was down 2-0 through five innings and then scored runs in the sixth and seventh to tie the score...then burst the game open to win . Houston Baptist did not appear to have any organized bullpen plan, as the pulled the center-fielder in as their first reliever.

Dorsett came in to relieve Manaea in a bases-loaded situation in the sixth...getting the final out and pitching a to four batters in the seventh. Fehringer had a perfect eighth. Devin Moore loaded the bases in the ninth and one run scored to tie the score at 3-3.

Curry led off the bottom of the ninth with a single. Kraemer laid down a sac bunt to send Curry to second. Ort was intentionally walked. Lucas gets a single to load the bases with one out. Hileman grounds to second and runner thrown out at plate. Two outs. Burnam singles to right field for the walk-off win 4-3.

Manaea's outing was a mixed bag. He gave up a walk in the first and that runner came in on a wild pitch without a hit in the inning. Overall, he pitched 5.2 innings, five hits (none for extra bases), seven strikeouts, four walks and two wild pitches.

Manaea had a fairly solid outing...but still has a little ways to go to get to last year's form. Relief pitching was solid from Dorsett and Fehringer, but Moore (1-2) (pitching the ninth) had another rocky outing but got the win.

This team is fairly solid and if the bullpen can develop a consistancy, they should do well in conference play.

As I have said before, we haven't seen the level of competition that can tax our team until this weekend...BUT the offense is remarkable, the starting pitching is close to last year (and if Manaea can get back to last year's form it will be a hair better), and the fielding is nearly as reliable as 2011. Relief pitching wise, we have more bullpen depth than the past three years...but we need to cement some reliable horses to come out of the stable in the seventh-ninth innings.

It's good to see us doing this good against quality opponents. I enjoy reading your posts. I tried listening to today's game but lost the audio (middle of 4th) and couldn't get it back before I had to leave.

Another nice win. Winning these close games should help build confidence and chemistry. Two things we can use to compete in conference play. Great Job Sycamores !!
