The Renn Level
I sit at the top of the stadium seats and have observed something for the past several years.
The elevator access at the top of the stands is blocked every game by television cameras. I don't need to use the elevator
and rarely do. However, there are several elderly fans whose seats are in that area. At each game I see them attempting to get to their seats without tripping over cables or knocking over the cameras. I believe ISU needs to move the cameras to the top of the press box like they used to be. Or they could just wait for a letter from a lawyer.

Boy are you right. I know a "seasoned" fan who last year at one game didn't want to fight that hassle with the cameras. He went down the stairs and took a nose dive down about 7 rows of seats. They are lucky that gentleman loves ISU, because a lot of people would have sued ISU into next week...

My brother who is a disabled vet has to drive in a scooter took the elevator up to a game last year and this problem occured also his solution was bump them with his scooter and tell them they are blocking handicap access . If they had raised an issue the whole ADA issue would have been raised .

Something else that would be less expensive than a lawsuit would be to build television camera towers on the north side of the stadium....so we can see the freakin' stands instead of the nothingness on the north side.

Besides all of the ADA and EHS (Americans with Disabilities Act and Environmental Health and Safety) issues...most if not all of those people...support staff to reporters, reporters, and whoever else is up there....can ditch the attitudes too. Those people are earning their incomes from ISU sports and they need to show a little more respect to the fans and alumni who are paying the bills....who enter that area.

I can't believe the Athletic Department thinks that cluster-fxxx of cables, wires, connection boxes, tripods, etc....running and laying every which way is a good idea.

For those of you who have never used the elevator...it's a fast way to unoccupied seats, and it's a quick way to get back down to bathrooms, concesssions, and tailgates!!!

We've run into this same issue too. My dad bought a couple of season tickets up there so that my grandma could take the elevator up there and watch the games (she has to use a wheelchair to get around). However, we've never been able to get her up there easily with all of the cameras, etc. Something definitely needs to be done about this.

I think you all can tell i've never been up that high because I never knew MS had an elevator. I like the idea of moving the cameras to the north side but that probably won't happen. Somebody needs to raise this idea to RP and President Bradley, so something can be done.

I mentioned this issue in another thread last week. I asked RP before where the handicapped seating was located and that I have prosthetic leg and can not take steps with out a hand rail he told me that handicapped seating was located at the top of the stadium on either side of the television cameras. The elevator is supposed to be just for media people or handicapped people, not healthy people that are too lazy to take the steps. I have tripped many times over the cables. I am pretty sure MS does not have to comply with ADA as it was built before ADA existed but if the University were to do any renovating to the stadium then it would have to be ADA compliment. The handicapped seats in HC are abused as well.

Should not be that expensive or difficult to create a platform on the north side for TV -- does not need to be that high and most importantly it doesn't show the world a "crowd" of 57 people sitting on a grassy knoll -- not good for PR or recruiting. Get the TV stuff moved.
Then all the above problems are solved.

There is no question that the cameras are a dangerous nuisance to those who favor seats in the top rows for all the reasons described in this thread. Moving the cameras to the north side, if that could be done at a reasonable cost, would be a great idea as it would improve our image on national television. But removing two rows of seats to expand the area used by the cameras would not be too difficult, I don't think. Two friends of mine who used to sit up there no longer come to the games because of problems confronted when they get off the elevator.

In what way do you mean HC handicapped seating is abused ? I sit in this area and although it is because I sit with my brother I am still entitled to sit there as are the people who sit around me the thing about having a disability is you do not have to have a limp or wheelchair to be disabled . There are many who are disabled do to a unseen disease or disorder.

Moving the cameras to the north side would help with cable issue but not with healthy people using the elevator unnecessarily. I mean when somebody is standing there with five kids waiting on the elevator and you also have elderly people waiting and obvious handicapped people waiting somebody needs to step up and tell those parents to take their kids down the steps.

And those people you are talking about could probably use the exercise anyway. That is what is killing this country, obese and unhealthy people. Healthy people need to just take the stairs, it's not gonna kill you.

I have never used the elevator because I didn't know I could. Everyone who's bashing those parents need to realize its hard and dangerous to carry children up the stairs. I have an 11 month old and I'm real nervous about going up and down the stairs with her.

Let's all just face it, Memorial Stadium is basically a dump and it needs to be replaced - AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The steps in the seating area are, in fact, dangerous, and not just to handicapped people. No handrails means no way to catch yourself if you miss a step. I'm really shocked that ISU hasn't been sued by someone falling on the steps. Handicapped access to their designated seats is non-existent.

There have been some nice upgrades at our stadium for the team, and they were needed, but that place needs to be put out to pasture. I wonder where ISU is at with fundraising for a new stadium. But knowing the recent efforts of the Foundation people, I think I know the answer...

I agree with this. I like to sit about 30 rows up and my 3 year old increases the stair time (for everyone behind us too) by about 150%. I was thinking using the elevator (which i didnt know went outside the press box) if i brought my 6 week old in the big a$$ stroller which i dont want to lug up the stairs as much as i dont want to walk while carring her car seat the mile I will have to walk from my parking space.
