Sycamore Proud

The Nicks Level
This is from Tom James and Facebook. I don't see how this could not be good news:

Got great news today from the Indiana State football coaching staff. They're going back into Western Pennsylvania full bore recruiting-wise.

The Sycamores have had a rich history of recruiting the area under former head coaches Jerry Huntsman, Tom Harp, Dick Jamieson and Dennis Raetz.

Due to temporary recruiting budget cutbacks and limitations, coaching staffs got away from hitting the area.

But recently hired defensive line coach Jeff Mills is going to be heading back there in the next week or so. He has some experience in the area from his days as an assistant at Youngstown State.

So all you guys who live out that way, you may be getting an email or call to help point Coach Mills in the right direction. There are a lot of former Sycamore players back in the area, many serving as coaches.

SP, you likely remember the western PA influence back in "our" days and since that's my roots, I am glad to see it. Clearly 20-30% of the squad were from PA in the 60's and early 70's and it paid off with some real talent. I think some of the change has come from the way scholarships are "credited" when you are an out-of-state student. Maybe somebody from the program can explain it better but Dr. Bradley eased up on some of the out-of-state restrictions, so I have been told. Glad to hear it. I used to drive Jim Brumfield and Butch Penn back home to PA back in the 60's and I felt lucky to get to know them and how much they loved playing in good ol' TH and attending ISU.

Once the unionization of NCAA football and MBB, it won't matter where the players originate; we won't have a fball team AND the costs will all be identical for athletes. Out of State students will still pay more but athletes won't
