Bally #50
The JSW Level
Here's something I posted on Facebook that I thought I would share with you guys:
Great night for the MoVal. Wichita State, knocked off #1 seed Gonzaga to return to the sweet 16 for the first time in 8 years or so. They are the SECOND place team in the Val and the champion plays no less than Duke tomorrow to also get a ticket to the sweet 16 a place they have been before as well. The Valley, the 2nd best conference of the mid-majors-- had seven teams out of 10 eligible for post-season, 6 played and now have a collective 9-1 in record in the post season so far. The one loss unfortunately came with my Sycamores loss at Iowa in the NIT. To me, what is making this tourney so fun to watch, is the mid-majors holding their own against the big guys. I love to see the Gonzagas, the Butlers, The VCU's. the Harvards of collegiate basketball have success. It is no surprise that as an Indiana State alum, I feel that way because it all started with ISU and Larry Bird taking on the Michigan State and Magic in 1979. I will always have that memory and the pride that comes with such a great game. It is still, and likely will always be, the most-watched collegiate basketball game in history. There is something special about the whole David vs. Goliath thing. Love this time of the year, but it is even sweeter because the middies are holding their own.
