Both track teams head to Drake University for the annual Drake Relays Thursday through Saturday this week. Looks like we're taking a small crew this year as not many are listed to participate from ISU. Weather will be an issue, especially Friday and Saturday as rain and cold temperatures are predicted.

For the women:

Relays we're in:
4 x 100
4 x 1600
4 x 400
4 x 800

Distance Medley Relay

Individuals from ISU participating

100 hurdles - Ayanna Morgan, Patrycja Dziekonska

For the men:

Relays we're in:
4 x 100
4 x 200
4 x 400
1600 sprint medley relay
Distance Medley Relay
4 x 110 shuttle Hurdle relay (ISU owns the Drake Relays record in this event)

Individual Men from ISU

So it's a pretty small crew heading out there this year, not sure if there is another meet going on elsewhere this weekend where the rest of the team will be participating at? We'll see?

and the ISU women get us off to a GREAT start tonight, destroying the school record in the 4 x 1600 meter run! The old record was 19:57.60, the girls ran 19:29.17 to get third! Brooke Moore ran a 4:38 to anchor the relay! Incredible!

the 3 girls who ran in the 10k all set PR's tonight. Megan Doty placed 10th in 35:58.84, #3 all time at ISU, she had been #3, but was :10 faster tonight.

Colleen Madden was 16th in 36:24.69, that is #6 all time at ISU

and Alli Workman ran 37:36.36, also a major PR

Akis Medrano is next in the men's 10k

weather causing athletes to have bad days at Drake, our men's shot putters and Redmon in the Long Jump placed near the bottom of their fields.

4 x 100 relays are at the top of the hour

not much more to write home about, our pole vaulters finished last place, our 4 x 400 relay team was nearly last place, maybe the girls 4 x 800 meter relay can do better later tonight.

Just been a bad day for ISU

a better ending to the night for ISU as the girls 4 x 800 relay placed 4th behind Oklahoma State, Iowa State, and Ohio State.

Their time was 8:52.38, which is #2 in school history.

Weather wasn't good, cold and windy, so slower than they were expecting to run.

Taylor Austin with another school record, she broke her own record in the steeplechase this morning, running 10:13.42! She was 3rd place overall.

Coach Walsh has the girls running very well!

the women's sprint medley relay was 3rd, running 3:56.37, that's 4th fastest in school history

in the men's hurdle final, Marcus Neely placed 3rd in 13.77, that might be his best time this season, can't recall.

Anyway, just one more person to run, David Timlin in the 1500 here in a few minutes.

Overall, despite a handful of very good performances, it's been a dreadful Drake Relays weekend for ISU.

We also have some people competing over at a meet at Miami (Ohio) today as well

David Timlin just won his 2nd consecutive men's 1500 title at Drake in 3:51.59. Great win, but still nowhere near fast enough to get him into the NCAA East regional. He needs a 3:46 1500 to make the field (top 48). Just two more meets to try for it, Billy Hayes next weekend, then the MVC meet at Wichita.
