A ton of double headers is definitely would be hard on the pitching, but I doubt if they missed much more classroom time than they would have if they only played a single.

well...they didnt much too much class time....

warn was a stickler about going to class and keeping their grades up.....sometimes he didn't take a full squad on road trips...depending on a player's class schedule.....

and did anyone notice who we played that year....

teams like louisville, arkansas, minnesota, arizona, oral roberts, illinois, western kentucky...in addition to state schools like ball state, iu, evansville....ue wasn't in the mvc at that time.....

insane amount of pitching???? yes...and we had it...lol...

two 12-game winners (howes and ilsley), four with five or more wins (ghelfi, klemp, john gardner, mike gardiner)

We played all conference games with doubleheaders on Saturday's and Sunday's. I remember coming back from Creighton and Wichita in the motorhomes Monday morning at 4 and 5am and just staying up and going to the 8am class. Yes I went to class. I had to! I wasn't that smart not to go. We had unlimited games and unlimited practices (back in the day). Sure it was demanding, but most if not all survived the schedule.

And they didn't start the season until March. Wow. They played two games a day and they played everyday. That is too many games. They had to miss a lot of class time. I don't see how it's possible not to with a schedule like that. And when did they have time to study if they were on the field for five to six hours a day every day?

its called scheduling your time....lol....

and if you don;t manage your time...then you would be in trouble...kids couldnt do that today...but they could...and did...back then......very well i might add....

for the people complaining that the 1985 schedule was too long....

where were you back then when the team was actually playing that schedule...we sure didn't hear a lot of people complaining back then....lol...
