There's no public outcry because no one cares about IUPUI or IUI or whatever they want to call themselves now. Not sure what's wrong with them playing at the Coliseum which looks like a relatively nice facility. Just another day of wasting money in Indianapolis. They should have sent the Colts packing when they wanted their new stadium. I think it's ridiculous that taxpayers have to fund stadiums for organizations that are willing to pay their whiny overpaid athletes millions and millions of dollars.

If no one cares about IUI, why are they getting $90M in taxpayer money for a news sports complex and we aren't? Because people care even less about Indiana State? Sad but true. Oh, but hey, they did give us $37M to renovate the Hulman Center.

It's because they're an extension campus of IU. They dropped Purdue so that the city of Indianapolis could have an R1 institution.

Is that what the billboards say?

the split was mutual; as was the IPFW split,

i doubt the split will bear a lot of improvement; *uck - they can't even agree on some land usage

The billboards just advertise the school as "IU Indianapolis" rather than "IUPUI" like they used to. I just noticed the change last month.

When they announced the split a while back, one of the reasons was that Indianapolis was the the largest city in the USA without an R1 institution. I don't know the details on how they rate schools, but with the split the new IUI will be able to take credit for certain degrees (like the medical school) that they weren't allowed to officially take credit for before.

IUPUI was an R2 institution for quite some time; any future form will remain so

There's long been one medical school in Indiana with MULTIPLE campuses; the idea that this split will allow "iui to take credit.." WTF? Wholly illogical

What this split allows is for BOTH schools to bloat their bureaucracies with more overpaid, non-working administrators -- it also allows the reform school in gloomington to increase their stranglehold on the state capital

the idea that the split will increase research or collaboration is a farce
