The Captain Level
In 2023, the ISU Women's golf team needed a birdie on the last hole from the last player to finish to get into a tie with Northern Iowa for first place. The Sycamores then claimed their first tournament title win since about 2016 when Yang Tai birdied the first playoff hole and ISU finished two shots ahead of UNI. (Best four scores count for each school.)

This afternoon, the Women's golf team played round 2 of that tournament in the final tournament of the fall season. After round 1, the ladies led by three shots with Juniors Yang Tai and Briana Lemaire leading the way. Today, no playoff was needed as the Sycamores put up the second best score of the day and won by 10 shots over Belmont.

The field included 4 other Valley schools (Belmont, UIC, Evanville, and Valpo). ISU finished with a +35 to par and a total of 611 (301, 310) for the two rounds while Belmont was in second with a 621 (314,307).

For the first time in many years, an ISU player claimed the individual championship as Yang Tai shot a combined +3 with rounds of 74 & 73.
The Sycamores placed three total players in the top nine finishers. Junior Briana Lemaire (74,79 = +9) and freshman Alana Gilbert ( 75, 78= +9) finished tied for fifth place with two other players.

Sophia Florek finished tied for 15th with a 78,80 = +14 while the final team member was Rosalie DiNunzio who shot matching +12 rounds of 84 to finish +24.

ISU had three more players playing as individuals whose scores did not count in the team totals. This team has depth as shown by the finishes of these three players, two of whom are freshman.
Freshman Gabby Cone finished in a 6 way tie for 28th at +16 shooting 81,79 = 160.
Junior Eliza Baker followed closely at +17 with 83,78 = 161.

Freshman Nicole Feistl finished in a 4 way tie for 60th at +25 with scores of 87,82 = 169.

This wraps up the fall season but a long winter of practice both outdoors and inside at the team's modern training complex looms on the horizon.

ST. LOUIS – Indiana State women's golf junior Yang Tai earned her second Golfer of the Week honor for her play at the Braun Intercollegiate on October 21-22, announced by the league office on Thursday.

Tai finished as the top individual in the tournament for her first-ever first-place finish. She led Indiana State to: (1) its first tournament victory of the fall, (2) back-to-back victories in the Braun Intercollegiate - 2023 fall and 2024 fall, and (3) only the fourth program tournament victory since the beginning of Fall 2016.

Tai finished four strokes ahead of second place which helped Indiana State capture the 10-stroke victory over 12 other schools, including four other MVC schools (five including one school's B team).

She used back-to-back birdies on holes 10 and 11 and tallied six-straight pars to close out the second round to conclude the back nine shooting even. She paired that with an eagle on hole two and a one-under back nine in the first round to continue her persistent fall golf to bring home the individual first-place finish. She also birdied six holes in the tournament, the best on the team.

This marks Tai's second Golfer of the Week nod in her career; both selections came this fall as she also earned the honor after the team's second tournament.

Indiana State concluded its fall season with the victory in Evansville and will return to action in the spring.
