A third Michigan State football player has left the program this month.

Backup wide receiver Donald Spencer, a sophomore from Ypsilanti, is the latest to leave, MSU associate athletic director John Lewandowski confirmed today. Spencer tweeted today that he was transferring to Indiana State, which plays in the FCS.

Spencer played in seven games -- primarily on special teams -- last fall as a redshirt freshman. He caught two passes for 21 yards against Iowa.
Coming out of high school, he was rated as the No. 17 player in the state by the Free Press. Rivals.com rated him as a four-star prospect and the No. 39 wide receiver in the country for the 2009 recruiting class.

Last week, fellow receiver Fred Smith, a junior from Detroit Southeastern, left the program. Then earlier this week, Lansing Sexton standout Onaje Miller, who signed with MSU in February, was released from his national letter of intent.

MSU coach Mark Dantonio suspended Spencer and several other players for being present at Rather Hall during an altercation at a fraternity potluck Nov. 22, 2009. Spencer, who was redshirting that season, did not face criminal charges and was reinstated after the Spartans returned from the Alamo Bowl.
