Not sure what happened to 1) Fr. 1B Dillon Diehm (Ft. Wayne)...Fall injury must not have healed?
2) Jr. RHP Mitch McIntyre (Wichita St/Iowa Western CC)...Last Summer injury not healed?

Looks as if Zahn & Giesler are healthy again. This squad has a # of power hitters, w/ Giesen, Owen, Young & Roselli. Will be interesting to see if Owen DH's or plays RF.

* Huntley, Tofteland & Ayers are GOOD looking frosh. At least ONE will get a starting nod in the ISU OF.

* RHP Ward & LHP Polley looked good on the mound last Fall. Ward is an excellent "spot" pitcher and will likely be a key ISU reliefer. Polley is a lanky LH that will also contribute. Needs to add a few lbs. of muscle to help w/ stamina.

Other thoughts from observation last Fall:

#2 Bifano C Nice defensive skills (blocking pitches in the dirt, quick throwing release/good accurate arm);
Line drive/Ground ball hitter w/above average speed; communicates well/good team leader.

#6 Dungan 2B Good bat control/opposite field line drive hitter;

#8 Moore CF Good range in CF; average arm; good speed;.250 history w/ bat?
Needs to develop on-base threat (11 SB in 42 gms @JC level).

#21 Huntley OF Nice player size - good arm & nice swing.

#23 Tofteland 3B/OF Nice player size - good power.

****#27 Brimbury 2B Good looking "Dallas Baptist-type physique- confident bat control, nice bunter.I was impressed last Fall....but he's also not listed (RS?).

#28 Polley LHP Nice velocity; mixing pitches? Pickoff moves? Work n progress.

#30 Diehm 1B Good mentality to game; lose Lbs. - A.J. Reed “UK Program” to increase speed & mobility.

#34 Ayers OF Good looking - pull hitter; good arm/coverage;

They just put it up...wasn't up yesterday when I checked.

Diehm suffered an injury late Fall, can't recall if it required surgery. He's a good looking prospect...1B - big, husky kid w/ a good baseball head. Last Fall, he was getting all the p/t @ 1st as Zahn & Giesler were still not 100%.

Gee...we now have three (3) 1B that are ALL questionable w/ injuries & rehab (Zahn, Giesler, Diehm). Last year was TOTALLY screwed, as Derek Hannahs had to play 1B (normally 2B). If all 3 are out, I'd put Tofteland @ 1B.

Heck of a scout Bankshot. You sure you are retired from making $$$ or at least meal money from baseball?

So, the big question is "Who are the starting pitchers?" At this level, pitching is king!

Good question...a lot of upperclassmen on this roster. Keaffaber, Conway, Larrison & Lombard are good anchors. RS Srs. Kuhlman & Peterson are big questionmarks. Lunsford had the "soph blues" last yr. and hopefully will come back prepared.

All new OF, so I'm curious who is slated to replace:

1. Curry in CF - JC transfer Moore looked good defensively. Fast w/ good arm, but has a WEAK stick and not a proven threat on the bases like Curry.

2. Hayes in RF - Hunter Owen was playing RF last Fall & seemed to be adapting well (formerly 3B). Great slugging % & strong arm. I'd say he's got the inside track.

3. McClain in LF - Gutierrez lost his starting pos. late in the season while carrying a near .300 BA. Will likely get the starting nod if his "D" has improved. Gets a late jump on the all, which is real liability in LF.

CJ Huntley, Ayers & Rosselli will all be hot on Gutty's heels!

Coach Hannahs responded to a inquiry by Gotta Hav re: Diehm's status (Gotta Hav's also from Ft Wayne), and he's being RS this season because of the Fall injury/rehab. Big loss, as this kid can play!
