FTR, I agree the conference tournament format/location is perfect. I’m just saying the conference tournament for an 11-team league is superior to a conference tournament for a 12-team league.

Why? You’re starting at 3:30 on Thursday instead of Noon on Thursday. Noon on Thursday is hard for fan bases to make for obvious reasons.

Some leagues with 12 teams only take the Top 8 so technically you could compress it or the leagues that do put everyone into the hopper actually run an extra day with all of the cellar dwellers playing on Wednesday.

I'm not sure this would be a worry for the conference.

In my opinion if the conference wants to do anything with the tournament they should reduce it to 6 and have 2 games on Friday, 2 on Saturday, and the Championship on Sunday. This past season was the first time I had been to a Friday with the new 12 team format and 3 of the 4 games were pretty miserable to watch. I won't be going over there before Saturday from now on. Besides that I just don't think schools that finish in the bottom half of the league should be competing for a NCAA Tournament bid.

As for expansion it just depends on who they want to add for me. If it's Chattanooga or NKU I'm good with expanding back to 12. If they're looking at UTA, UMKC, Milwaukee, Bellarmine, or St Thomas then I'm solidly in the "remain at 11" camp.

The problem with 11 teams is that everyone will have at least two games each season where their opponent is on an extra few days of rest.

Valley used this format, when they had 9 teams

why stop at 6? why not 4 or even 2?

If you want to know the truth I don't even like the conference tournaments at all, so if the league wanted to do away with them altogether I'd be perfectly fine with it. All they are is a money grab that greatly reduces the value of the 20 league games played throughout the regular season.

With that said the conference wants the money and the only schools that are going to bring a decent amount of fans are schools with a legitimate chance of winning it. Schools that finish 7-10 aren't bringing fans because they know they're just going to lose to the 1 or 2 seed the next day. The fans of the 11th and 12th place schools quit caring in January if not sooner.

With a 6 team model you still reward the 1 and 2 seeds with a bye, but the 3-6 teams are good enough to potentially make things interesting.

the MBB conf tourneys are money grabs?!?! That is SHOCKING news!!!

if any conf is going to stage a tourney AND the ncaa is going to mandate that the auto bid GOES to the conf tourney "champion", then they need to fully embrace it and every conference should have EVERY CONFERENCE member participate - NO ONE is left out. Take a page from Hoosier Hysteria c. 1943-1997 and EVERY IHSAA member participated in the Boys State Tourney.

Scale the "big dance" from 68 to 32 teams, every conf and ONE at-large, NO SCHOOL is mentioned notre dame; hell - make it REALLY fun and do a live BLIND draw, aka lottery ping pong ball of the remaining 324 schools.

This year's magazine will not be worth buying ...... anyone making prognostications with so many transfers is next to impossible.
I don't think people buy it just for the the preseason prediction though. Which I already bought this when I preordered awhile back and forgot about. It's solid information just don't agree with the order they predicted teams.
