Damn shame. Got to see Sloan and those great Ace's teams play as I was a sophomore at ISU in '64. Hate to hear this kind of news.

Agree...hard way to go. My Dad was 76 when 1st identified w/ DAT in '90. We kept him @ his home in Melbourne for the first couple years, but then he slid down hill fast. Lived four (4) more years in nursing home before passing.

Terrible news. If character, tenacity and will have anything to do with surviving these terrible diseases then Jerry will do a great job of battling.

Though I am a great MJ fan and loved the Bulls of the late 80s and 90s, the greatest guard tandem in franchise history, in my opinion, was Sloan and Van Lier. Maybe not the size, skills and athleticism of Scotty and MJ but they are at the top of my list because they were the 2 toughest NBA guards to ever lace 'em up.
A favorite Sloan story of mine:When I was at grad school at ASU I had a buddy whose dad was one of several attorneys who , as a group, were the owners of the Bulls pre-Reinsdorf days.As a result, he could get us freebie tickets to Suns games. So, naturally, we saw a bunch. The 1st time the Bulls were in Phoenix that year, the refs were screwing them. Jerry didn't talk much on the court, but said something to, I think, Mindy Rudolph, who immediately teed him up. After the next rebound, Chet Walker threw the outlet to Sloan who took the ball to the middle of the court and pushed it up hard even though the Suns were back on defense. Rudolph, trying to keep up with Sloan, sprinted right behind him when, all of a sudden, Jerry stopped on a dime. Rudolph (who was a skinny little guy) ran right into Sloan's back and fell flat on his back, swallowing is tongue. The trainers ran out to help him out and the Bulls walked over to their bench(we had snuck down about 3 rows right behind the bench, it wasn't hard because the Suns sucked in those days). As Sloan and Van Lier were sitting down , Jerry said to Norm, , "I guess, Mindy won't be blowin' his whistle as much" Hot Rod Hundley, who at the time, was the Suns color commentator, heard what Sloan had said and started laughing so hard he almost fell off his chair.

Hang in there. Jerry!
