Sadly, too many Americans can't grasp the basics of driving on straight roads... traffic circles are another universe to them

Well by the time I left Carmel had gone to roundabouts almost exclusively on all new roads and was even redoing existing 4-way stops into them but they never had the balls to go to this config. This probably has someone's creative juices flowing.

the "goodness" to them is they should keep traffic moving... however, I've found most Americans are so unaccustomed to them that they actually SLOW traffice more than intended. The NEast has them everywhere, I know they're becoming more "popular."

Wonder how much municipalities save on maintenance of lights and light poles with round-a-bouts? While i think drivers have gotten better at handling them the last couple of years, there are still intersections that have no business being a round-a-bout. In my area the one that comes to mind is Valpo right when you get off highway 49. That thing is a madhouse

The multi-lane roundabouts they have up there on SR 32 are the worst ones. I have to "block" when approaching one in my semi because people are apparently too stupid to realize that there isn't enough room to go side by side with a 70 foot long truck in a tight roundabout.

Up in Wisconsin they have multi-lane roundabouts, but they were actually smart enough to build them for trucks to get through, so that we don't have to block when approaching them. Surprisingly Wisconsin by far has the best roads in the MidWest and it isn't even close.

Yep, they also have some that are damn near butt right up against entrances to strip malls so the poor semi driver has to try to figure a way to jimmy his ass in backwards to drop product. They really did go hog wild putting them in.

Wisconsin has been completely rebuilding their old highways / interstates and paving them with thick concrete, which seems to hold up a lot better than the blacktop roads we have here in Indiana. My conclusion is that Wisconsin is actually doing their road construction the correct way versus the cheap way like we seem to do it here.

Being ~15 minutes outside of Milwaukee, I can confidently say our roads are worse in my neighborhood than around 465. Construction has been constant for 3-4 years with no signs of speeding up. I have a new set of 4 tires to show for it.
