Michael Copper, ISU, 1969 was recently selected as part of the 2010 Class of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. He is already a member of the ISU HoF as a starter on the 1967-68 NCAA College Division National Finalist team.

Copper brings the number of Sycamores in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame to 25.

A former Indiana State player will be inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame next year.

Mike Copper is one of the former players and coaches who will be inducted March 24 at a dinner in Indianapolis.

Copper played high school basketball at Valparaiso and was a starter on the ISU team that took second in the NCAA College Division tournament in 1968, losing to Kentucky Wesleyan in the championship game in Evansville.

He had a long career in education and most recently retired as superintendent of the Lawrence School Corporation in Marion County.

I was talking to a friend of Newsom's the other day @ the "Y"...I guess he's retired in St. Pete while staying active on the area golf courses and enjoying his "golden years."

Fellow Columbus native & UE player, Steve "the Whale" Welmer is also now living in Florida, cutting back significantly on his NCAA officiating schedule following a lengthy illness last year. Talk about having it made...I guess his wife is an air stewardess and arranges FREE air faires for her hubby, who still receives NCAA stipends for such expenses.
