Despite NCAA ok'ing title game within 10-tm conferences; the B12 will explore expansion. Potential schools include Colo St, BYU, Rice, Houston, Memphis, Cincinnati, UConn and UCF. The conference may be able to vote on expansion this September.

In an unofficial ESPN poll of B12 coaches, BYU and Houston were the fav's; Memphis & Cincinnati were 3&4... The conf may add 2-4 teams

Fresh off the announcement by ESPN that they'll be working with the ACC to start a TV network for them. Color me shocked.

Agree -- sux for the rest of the conference that they didn't get a network in place PRE-ShortHorn Lies Broadcasting... (utxs network)

texas greed responsible for nebraska and texas a/m bolting, mizzu too

byu would certainly be the best choice; i'd still say colo state over houston - mainly because of academics, though houston is certainly a better choice than memphis, cincinnati... ucf or even uconn

b12 commish isn't worried about geographic footprint, essentially that's old thinking... expansion today is tv eyes and your electronic footprint

Yeah, Texas really screwed the conference over and looks like they're still toying with trying to get SEC membership. My guess is that is also why you see them going after expansion now.

I think you'll see Houston because of the market. Many forecasts showing that being the largest US city by 2040-2050.

Do you think the $EC will allow the short horns to keep their network running? it they do, they're fools.

Central Florida makes a lot of sense for the future, but BYU is the prize they will try and lure in. Houston would be okay, but they'd have to add 3 more schools at the same time to make Houston appealing.

The Cougars make the most sense from a geographic-point; despite the fact that full b12 members make ~$30M annually (new adds have to wait a period of time to ca$h in...) it's counter-productive to have a conference stretching from Utah to So.-Central Florida...

Memphis would KILL to be in the b12... just ask them

If I were a non-ut, non-okla school; i'd push like hell for BYU, Colo State and Houston in that order... after that, i'm not sure; memphis and cincinnati would be lower on the list than Cent FLA

Geography means nothing with conference expansion. My reasoning behind UCF has more to do with enrollment, endowment, massive alumni base, Florida being crazy about football, etc. I think Houston is on the high-end of the list, but nobody in Texas cares about Houston collegiate sports other than pining for their head football coach.

True, UCF has a LOT of students and sits in FLA... but who CARES about UCF football? They're ~ 4th or 5th (at best)... uf, fsu, um, the dolphins, buccaneers and jags have more fans than the knights do...

plus, expansion SHOULD BE about more than football; how do you move the women's golf team from Okla State TO Orlando for a Wednesday afternoon match?

There's been very little common sense or LOGIC behind 90% of the expansion moves in the last 5-10 years; I know common sense and LOGIC will NOT be included in the future but THAT'S a BIG part of the problem with the current expansions

You and I are in complete agreement about what should be important and what makes logical sense. The problem is, money makes people do things illogically.

Also, there are a LOT of people that care about UCF football. I think you're selling it short.

I'd add in USF over them as well.

I think both USF and UCF are just going to be very LARGE versions of a 'ball state like' college... the BULK of the students, future alums are fans of UF or FSU...

Plus the Bulls just added THIS wrinkle to their profile...

USA Today writer was not impressed with UCF's overall athletic profile... same writer touted Tulane to RAISE the big 12's academic profile BUT as any b12 add is about football, football and football; with a splash of men's basketball... Tulane has as much chance of an invite as ISU-E has
