The Starter Level
Well, now for the last few years under Coach Lansing we have been getting better and better, winning.
If we hit 20 win + plus this year, I am sure that coach will start getting offers from the higher echlon, and this sounds a bit crazy might get his million dollar contract.
For example Coach is one of the lowest paid in the MVC, I believe its 220,000 + bonuses, and 5 years guarantee. Look at all the exposure he has been receiving lately, ESPN 3, ESPN 2 etc etc.

Finally at the end of this year we better take care in our own house, or maybe, or maybe, we might loose him. Just a thought

"Lets keep the ball rollin."

I've heard from some sources that he's happy here and has no plans to go anywhere. He's been here longer than many of our football coaches. Remember he was an assistant for quite a while. Does he deserve a pay raise? Yeah I believe so but this shouldn't be a topic discussed. Let's focus on the players. He can be to us as Belmont's coach is to them.

Ask North Dakota State football fans about a coach that is "happy" at his present school.

We gotta take care of successful coaches, or we'll constantly be looking to build a team rather than a program. I'm more for raising salary than long term contract extensions. That didn't work out too well for SIU with Lowry. He drove their program into the crapper 'cause they couldn't afford to get rid if him. Or Notre Dame with Weiss - cost them $17,000,000 just to get rid of him! We can't payout long term contract guarantees, so load 'em with up front money on a shorter term deal. If you deal straight with a coach like Greg, I think he'll be straight with you, too...

If I were Prettyman, I'd give Lansing the choice since he had a recent raise and got more money for the assistants. Since we don't have comparable MVC-level funds in the program, I would imagine Lansing would rather have a bigger basketball budget so he could buy more games, recruit more, etc.

Definitely. Like I said, with a coach like Greg, if you shoot straight with him, I think he'll shoot straight with you.

And we might as well pay him more, because if he leaves for greener pastures, we're gonna end up paying the next guy more than we were paying Greg...

That said, you only do that if he's being poached. Otherwise, a contract is a contract. Renegotiate when it's about to expire...

Maybe some of you should email him and give him some thanks and maybe some pointers from a fans point of view. I was thinking about sending him an email just saying that I am thankful for him and what he's done for ISU to turn it into a respectable program that is consistently winning. Hmm, might even do that tonight.

Here, I'll even add his email.

[email protected]. Maybe even mention something to the AD to make sure he's happy and that we want to keep him. It wouldn't hurt.

i think he'll leave when he thinks he's peaked at ISU.......see Stevens at Butler....he got out knowing his team wasn't going to be very good this year......question is....is our team next year worth sticking around for......probably so.....

Why shouldn't he take advantage of his success. That's what Trent Miles did. Hopefully the timing would be better to allow ISU adequate time to find the next coach. And yes, I'll bet RP has a list of preferred canditates with contact information ready to go.

You guys can bump him to say 550k and then take the remainder of the money available for the program. Seems like that should be doable.

That would be nearly $100k more than we pay our entire staff including the DOBO right now.

I was thinking what might be should keep him long term. I was including bonus in that number. For instance if he is making 220k base with 100k for radio and 100k for tv plus 30k for a vehicle making his total package 450k now. So you could raise his base by 100k and then use whatever remaining funds are raised as a cash injection to the program.
