Northern Illinois surprises me. They rarely put 20,000 in the stands, but it would give the conference a stronger Chicago market

If the huskies surprise you... what's the reaction from East Carolina? They shouldn't even be in American...

Im thinking the only schools with a chance are BYU, Houston, SMU, Colorado State, and Boise & Cincy having an outside shot.

If they're only taking 2 like rumored, I'd take Colorado State and Houston and call it a day.

Agree -- though I think they should take a hard look at adding four; in order to (hopefully) keep pace with the other 'power 5' conferences...

BYU brings a national audience (though they do have their own TV network... that could present a speed bump) and WVa would love, LOVE an 'eastern' travel partner; though the eastern candidates aren't the best choices...

With the BIG conference shake-up taking place 2-3 years ago, where do you think it all ends?

I personally think it ends with 4 mega-conferences (Pac-12, BIG XII, BIG10, and ACC) but it appears to be taking much longer to get to that scenario that i would have thought.

You believe the $ec, the most corrupt college conference will cease to exist? I mean it's possible the entire body is placed on sanctions by the ncaa, in which case the $ec schools would bolt from the ncaa and begin their own, myopic 'Mega'Conference

I think we could have 5 conferences of 14 schools each... that's would be (arguably) the 70 'biggest, best' schools...

I think a construct of 4 mega-confs (16 tms per) would be the final death knoll for any, ALL of the mid-major conferences

Really depends on how long football drives the bus.

Complete brain fart on my part, I completely forgot about the SEC.

I'd think that the current BIGXII schools would join either the PAC-12, ACC, SEC, or BIG10 to create the 4 "mega-conferences'" Texas is definitely the big player in all of this and they could shake things up at the drop of a hat.

the biggest factor is texas' greed... will they kill the Shorthorn Network, a dealbreaker with any of conferences, i suspect... it's definitely a requirement to join the big ten... it's part of what kept them out of the Pac-12 and I can't see teh $ec or acc allowing them to keep it.

Im sure it's been discussed as part of the talks on launching the Big 12 network BUT there isn't a Big 12 network... the biggest reason, too few TV eyes in the Big 12 footprint...

the round of expansion will address tv eyes... look for a school with a passionate fan base, national following and/or a large urban setting and the eyes don't have to be on the tv but screen eyes
