The sad part would be anyone at Youngstown State being naive enough not to see this coming.

I loved this part of the article:

"However, he may not be a popular choice among everyone.

While his Nebraska teams always finished with at least 9 wins and ended each season ranked in the Coaches Poll (except 2008), it seemed like his teams plateaued and couldn’t go from being good to great."

Yeah, that should be a real concern for Purdue fans, whether he can take them from good to great. Hell, if he can take them from awful to mediocre they should build him a statue. Speaking of which, we should probably build one for Trent Miles, you know, in 50 years, when we can finally drum up enough funding for one.

This wouldn't be an immediately popular choice, but Purdue should take a chance and hire Art Briles. Briles is going to get another power-5 job in the next two years, and Purdue could be proactive and make that move now. They'll have to handle significant heat from the press and possibly from some boosters, but nobody can deny he's a great coach. He's possibly a terrible human being, but nobody at Louisville seems to care that Petrino is a terrible human being when Lamar Jackson is scoring 4 TD's a game.

Art Briles is their quickest way back to football prominence. He took Baylor, the Purdue of the Big 12 at the time, from basement to title contender. He could do it at Purdue. Names like Pelini and Les Miles will be thrown around, but neither of those guys will be able to have as immediate of an impact. I also disagree that Pelini would do anything of significance initially; recruiting at Nebraska is holistically different that recruiting at Purdue.

Personally, I do not care one iota about Purdue football or Purdue anything, so it's easy for me to say Briles should be the guy. No matter what though, it's hard to argue the success he's had on the field.

This seems like a reasonable step for him. If that's his only good option I would jump on it this year because Ron Swanson (Brock Spack) would probably be a leading candidate if he wasnt pissing the bed this year. I suppose he could still be but he hasnt been very good when he didnt have coprich and a FBS transfer QB

briles will be a stretch for nearly any 'power 5' team in the near future.

as to louisville & petrino, you are WHOLLY correct -- louisville has NEVER had an ounce of integrity, hell, it's hard to tell who's the bigger scumbag - rick 'the slimeball' pitino or bobby 'lie about my affairs' petrino?

I'm pretty sure the big ten (14) doesn't have a moral turpitude clause BUT if the did, it would be one more reason why louisville will never be admitted to the conference

Briles seems to be the hot name for LSU right now.

Doubtful--I hear more people upset whit how and when he left, than people talking about building a program. I, for one, am not sure they are wrong.

What's the basis? He's tenure was awfully brief to warrant a statue, he's not the LEGEND that L. Bird is... he didn't perform the same acts as those that are remembered by the statue of the Navy sailor on the quad...

what's your rationale?

Regarding the Trent Miles statue, it was a joke. I was making fun of the idea of Purdue immortalizing someone for getting them from awful to simply OK. You know, what Miles did for us. No, that doesn't warrant a statue, but both programs have been that awful.
