All time great coach for a time but not the longevity of competitive relevance it could have been or was achieved by Wooden, Coach K, Dean Smith etc.. Could sense it unraveling even during the era of the '87 run, fumbled it with some outstanding recruiting classes in the early 90's and by the mid-90's it was over. Very complex human being who clearly had a positive impact on many players but also a lot of demons.....

Can you imagine with The World of NIL, and a recruit would ask Knight “What’s In It For Me ($$)? All Hell would break lose I bet.

He would be right. NIL is bad for college sports along with conferences larger than 10 members, more than one team per conference getting in the ncaa tournament.

And then the recruit takes his talents to another school. He might be right, but that’s not how the game is played today.

I'm amazed anyone wanted to play for Knight when he was coaching. Playing for a psychopath certainly wouldn't be on the top of my list.

Never a big fan of Knight, I thought all the crap he put out was unnecessary. But he did put an excellent team on the floor most every year.
I will say this, he was the guy who ok'd playing ISU three times, the final game in Hulman Center. We beat IU 2 of the 3 (and should have won all 3), the final one with Menser's dream ending. Knight was fired by that time so he was not in Terre Haute that night (we would have won no matter what).
Gotta give him credit for that -- we won't find another IU.....or Purdue .....any other Big "10" coach willing to bring their squad to Hulman Center probably ever again. So thank you for that Bob.

Matt Painter brought his west laf. team to Hulman in Dec 2006; 6-yrs past knight's banishment

ISU as played west laf teams more than other big ten (4-31), ISU has beat gloomington teams (5-19) more than other big ten teams

ISU has never played: Ohio State, Northwestern, Maryland or Nebraska

We lost to NW a hand full of years ago in football but not in Terre Haute.

Not sure what my post had to do with playing Northwestern in football
And yes Purdue has come to Terre Huate a couple times.
My point was Knight was committed to playing us three years in a row, including a game in Hulman Center -- rare for a Big "Ten" school to do that
(Purdue did it the three years Bird played for ISU)
I was just crediting Knight for doing that.
Football ??? Yes we've played several Big Ten schools -- none in Terre Haute .......at least for the past 75 years or so.
