The Sycamores earned the series victory on Saturday against Bradley. It's their first series win to open a conference season since sweeping the Northern Iowa Panthers over four games back in 1998. And I'm sure we'll see a few brooms at today's game, which gets underway at 1:00 (ET) at Bob Warn Field.

Home run weather today, as winds during the game will be at 15-25 miles per hours from the southwest. The temperature at gametime will be about 78-degrees...climbing into the low 80's during the contest. Skies will be partly cloudy and there's just a slight change for precipitation.

Freshman LHP Sean Manaea (3-2, 3.69 ERA) is on the hill for the Sycamores. Manaea's last start was last Tuesday at Valparaiso where his went five innings allowing two earned runs, while striking out seven and giving up just one walk. Hopefully he hasn't had whatever minor bug that's gotten under the skins of Rea and Van Skike this weekend. While both were wins, neither starter was on his game.

Loved the explosive, nine-run second inning Saturday. That saved our bacon! It is very much like what happened so often during the 2009 season. Getting after the opposition early is a key to victory.

Scheduled to throw for the Braves is RHP Jacob Booden (3-0, 3.78 ERA). Booden has made six starts this season, throwing 33.1 innings. On the plus side, he has 26 K's and an opposing batting average of just .235. And, the only extra base hits he's allowed are three doubles. But he has had ball control issues. He's allowed 19 walks, had six wild pitches and has hit seven batters.

Today's contest will be available on 92.7 FM ESPN RADIO, on SycamoreVision, through Twitter and live stats service.

Sycamore lost 9-8 today, they were leading 8-7 in the 9th, but gave up 2 runs to Bradley in the 9th, then in the home half of the ninth ISU had men on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs and didn't get the tying run home.

Now tied for 2nd in the MVC as SIU swept UE and is in 1st with a 3-0 record.
MSU beat WSU
ILS and CU are still playing with CU currently winning.

Unfortunately, we look like a very average baseball team so far. A little power, not many consistent hitters and almost no middle relief or closing pitchers. If this is going to be a championship season for baseball somethng gotta give soon. Bradley may have only got one this weekend but realistically they could have had all three?

I agree ISU TREE FAN...we played a team that was very good match-up. Next week, we'll face a tougher team in Creighton...a much-improved team from last year when we beat them all but one time in the regular and post-season. As I've said before, we have to get all of the pistons firing together smoothly. Pitching, hitting and fielding. That has not been the case recently. Particularly disturbing is what happened to the starting corps this weekend. This is a tougher conference this year. We've got to be on top of our game for just about every series. Even SIU and Evansville can be a problem if we're not the best team during those series.
