Since we've strayed (again) I moved the thread...

I think it's fairly simple; it shouldn't be TOO hard to market the academic side using the School Seal as the logo (or the Syamore Leaf...); the University could adopt 'Academic Colors' as well as athletic; historically speaking, each academic discipline had their own color:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_dress#Undergraduate_gowns (check out the 'Inter-Collegiate Colors)

or this site: http://www.academicapparel.com/caps/regalia_colors.html

Interesting enough; Salmon Pink represents Philosophy, Light (Columbia) Blue represents Education...

On the athletic side; use the Indiana (outline) and arched 'Sycamores,' and the colors selected.

It should be determined by the University (Dr Bradley and RP), the Students (SGA) and the Foundation & Trustees (Dr Crume and Ron Carpenter, respectively)

As to the Campus; ditch the 'rainbow coalition' and 'blue' the hell out of the joint.

Thoughts?

I like the state logo too...not the leaf (at least not in its Miami Vice interpretation). The state outline, as I have been told, has been deemed the athletic logo...so I think that ISU is doing pretty much what you suggestion 4Q, but there are dissentors in the mix that are using the logos interchangably. Are you suggestiong a "rule" for their use?

Also, I like the star too..but it needs to be in the correct spot. Terre Haute is farther west than that star indicates. I would also say that nationally the star means nothing because outside of the state and even south of I-70 many, many people have no clue where Bloomington is. The confusion, in my opinion is present with all schools with the name "State" in their title. For example, if a student goes to Ohio University, they are always met with, "Ohio State?" and they have to respond, "No, Ohio University." It is the same pretty much everywhere. IU is just sooooo much more well known because it is soooooo much bigger with a far more well known athletic program, business school, medical school, etc.

This is what I was getting at, either put the star on Terre Haute or leave it off altogether.
