Clearly a coaching issue. I have played in and seen many games where there has been a flare up and some pushing, but the coaches always jumped in immidiately and separated the players. Granted, if it turns into a brawl, that becomes difficult, but if the coaches have the respect of the players, and they're both very vocal and physical as needed, it wouldn't be a long-lasting incident.
 
Living in the area of both schools I have to say that this is a South Bend Washington issue. If you remember correctly the school was the focus of a girl sucker punching another girl in the middle of a basketball game back in late 2013. Their football team was running punts backwards while up 40-50 points so their star reciever could break the national record for most yards in a season a few seasons back. They have also been the focus of multiple ineligible star athletes magically becoming eligible when they tranfered there.

I have personally talked to and know teachers in the building and have heard horror stories. They are lucky to get 8 or 9 students to show up to their class. A student can scream out f***n, s***, d***, etc. And not get in trouble as long as it is not directed at the teacher. Its time that the IHSAA comes down on Washington.
 
crooked IHSAA has to ban both teams right? I mean they did it with the basketball teams last year....but then again, they might use selective punishment like the NCAA does...
 
And for those of you unaware but that was South Bend Washington's 5th unsportsmanlike penalty that resulted in the fight...it wasn't even halftime yet.
