Nothing against Clint, but I hope they go outside the program.

Rarely do you have success from hiring w/i, on these terms (fired HC).

He may have the best chance at retaining the committed recruits (something to look at)

If the program had been wildly successful, I would be for hiring from within. But our program hasn't been wildly successful. Heck, it hasn't even been mildly successful for the past several years. Time to go outside if you have someone who is a surer bet...RP's call, not mine...

Strictly going by their bios, Kathi Bennett is the clear favorite. Vast head coaching experience, not to mention HC experience in Indiana. Probably has a lot of contacts. I would also think if you hired her and she was successful, she would look to get back to big time. Just my opinion.

Of the four names on that list....

I would say that Weddle might be the only long term solution. The rest all look like short term hires to me. I was really suprised that Lanham wasn't on the short list. She would be another that would be a long term solution as ISU is her dream job.

No such thing as a "long term solution" at ISU. The pay level will not "hold-on" to anyone and one or two conference championships and the coach will be on the run for more money; can't blame them. If the job is a stepping stone to a better one then enjoy the success when you have it and hire another one. Not to be in that position in the future is not being successful.

How much do you look at who the ladies want to be there next coach? The majority of the girls want Clint to be coach and as he is the primary recruiter many recruits will stay. And, by the way, that is a nationally ranked recruiting class. And when you talk about being mildly successful, has anyone notice, they finished with a better record than the men's team? Sure the past couple seasons have been a bit of a disappointment, however, that is no reason to keep a good coach out of the running.

well they also didn't play in post season play....had a losing record in conference...had a horrible out of conference schedule outside of Butler and Kansas State....btw is there anyway we can get a schedule upgrade for the girls? When me and Bkinsey can sit in the newsroom and legitimately say that "dude I can see the girls going undefeated." That's a problem lol...

Who the girls "would like to play for" should have minimal impact on the hiring decision. It is only natural that they would at this point be more comfortable with someone they know, but is that a good reason to ignore all other factors?

Umm well as a former athlete myself, I believe that if there was a clear favorite candidate among the team and that candidate was ignored, it would greatly influence my playing. I am not saying that the teams favorite candidate should be the only one that should be looked at, but I think it should be given much more thought than what you all are giving it.

In a manner of speaking, you don't let the inmates run the asylum. Of course the players are going to want Weddle, if they didn't, something would be wrong. That doesn't mean he's the best candidate. If RP picks him, though, that would be fine with me...

Hope not to come off as a smart alec but if you as a former athlete didn't care for the new coach you could like "hit the road". It's not supposed to be a popularity contest.

All I have to say is, its a good thing no one on here does the hiring/firing b/c you have no sense of loyalty to players, coaches anyone. All you want is the next best thing. If you want to keep a coach long term, maybe you should do what the alumni at other universities do and dig into your pockets and give a little more money. Its as simple as that. You people would rather completely destroy the program by possibly hiring someone the team does not necessarily think is best, thereby getting rid of a promising team and a nationally recognized recruiting class. Ya know, when Wiedie took over, it was in the middle of the season and was the most successful coach in the history of the program. With the exception of cross-country and track, this program has been the most successful program in the university the past 10 years but apparently that isn't good enough for the people on this site.

Geez, chill out. No one on here wants anything but the best possible coach for our women. This is more than a decision for the next year or this recruiting class, it's a decision for the long term. If it's someone from outside, that's great. If it's Weddle, that's great. RP was hired to do this, it's his job, and he'll do what's best for the program. That's all we can ask for.

I think it is a complete shame that Lanham didnt even get an invite. It will be a crying shame if Weddle is the pick. He is just not close to being ready for a head coaching position. Nothing would surprise me at this point. I believe the Lady Sycamores could have done great things with Lanham in place.:krazy::censored: But opinions come a dime a dozen...

I want the best available coach, but the "hit the road if you don't like it" logic is foolish. I had a supervisor tell his staff that once. Five years later 90 percent of us were gone and he was demoted. You better have the players' best interest in mind with your hire.

Wait, this Guy?! Sounds like he's a poor hire, sometimes inexperience is a good thing. I'd rather them look at Coach Weddle, Thank you very much
