The Sycamore Level
I ask all of you to keep Chelsea in your prayers this week as she will undergo a procedure to help her back. Friday is the actual day, and if all goes as planned her pain should subside and she can help the team win the MVC.

I wouldn't call it "surgery" and the Dr. said she will be day to day on how long she is out. Could be immediate relief or it may take a few weeks. Thanks everyone for your cares and concerns. She deserves two healthy college years to play after working since she was 6 to get to this point.

Herniated disc, but the pain is from the facet....which causes severe muscle spasms. She said she was walking like a 90 year old woman last week.

They heat up the nerves that the facet is pinching which will numb them. It is not permanent and a very safe procedure. It is done w/ a needle-like instrument, local anesth., and is done using an x-ray to see the area, etc... She had two injections prior to this last year and was able to play without the brace which really restricted her movement. She had the first shot prior to the SIU/UE road trip. Was restricted on minutes at SIU, but if you attended the UE game, she played pretty good in limited minutes and the important thing she was feeling good. Dr. believes since the shot worked, this will as well for a longer amount of time. Her concern is getting back into game form should she be pain-free. Been a while since that has occured. (pain-free and in shape) :)

Of course still too early to tell, but she says she feels pretty good. No pain medication was taken yesterday (Sat.) which to me is a good sign. She has dealt w/ pain for so long she is afraid to be too optimistic so early, but as of last night she was moving pretty good.

Thanks for everyone's prayers. The staff has been so good to her and Michelle Landis has gone above and beyond to help her.

Will say one thing...immediately after the procedure as she was sitting up on the table she asked the doctor "Okay, when can I play". She said the doctor and nurses just gave her a look like "I can't believe you just ask that". She is so dedicated to the game and wants to contribute where she can. The doctor told her to take it easy for 10 days or so.

Indians1,
me being a person who has dealt REPEATEDLY with injuries, Sickness and lack of readiness for athletic activity I feel for Chelsea... I hope for a speedy recovery and a Injury free season...

Nothing worse than wanting to do something and your body just won't cooperate.

Today was a rough day for Chelsea. I think usually the 2nd and 3rd day after any procedure is always the toughest. Still very optimistic that the procedure will make her feel better. I will keep the board updated of any changes but with her back at school now I don't always get told how she is doing......you know kids.

Chelsea has said the team is very close this year and the freshmen are doing very well and fitting in like they have been there all along.

I certainly hate to see someone as young and talented as Chelsea suffer from doing what she loves. I will continue prayer for her. Give her my best! And it's good to hear her impressions of the team.

Hate seeing Chelsea not being able to practice and get ready for the season. I know it's killing her and there is nothing she wants more than to be on the court. One of my favorite Lady Sycamores of all-time, tell her to hang in there and we all miss her!
