I think that I've gotten the coaching staff sorted out....

--Turner Pugh, former assistant at Fordham, is the new receivers coach. Pugh played wide receiver collegiately at Northern Illinois. graduting in 2004. He attended and played at Larkin High School in Illinois.

Pugh served as an offensive intern at George State University. At George State, he assisted in drills working with the wide receiver as well as assisting in organizing and entertaining recruits on their official visit.

Prior to George State, Pugh was the wide receivers coach at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio, in 2008. His duties included instructing the wide receivers on techniques and fundamentals as well as serving as the special teams coordinator. Pugh also assisted in the development of the Marietta passing game and was responsible for recruiting the states of Pennsylvania, Virginia, Illinois, Texas and Florida.

Pugh spent the 2007 season as a recruiting assistant at Indiana University, where he also helped coach the wide receivers and assisted in opponent film breakdown and practice preparation.

--Ray Smith is the new cornerbacks coach. He replaces Marcus Patton, who left after a brief stay to join the coaching staff at UCLA. Smith had been the cornerbacks coach at the College of St. Francis in Illinois.

Smith joined the USF coaching staff USF in 2008 and will again assist defensive coordinator Joe Curry while working primarily with the Saints' cornerbacks.

He coached the previous two seasons at NCAA Division III University of Wisconsin-Platteville where he also tutored the defensive backs. While at Platteville, Smith also served the university as an advisor in the school's admissions office.

Smith entered the coaching ranks after completing an outstanding playing career at Northern Illinois. A four-year letterman, Smith earned first-team All-Mid-American Conference honors as a senior safety in 2005.

He helped lead the Huskies to shares of four MAC West championships and captained the squad as a senior. He was also honored as the MAC Defensive Player of the Week once in 2004.

Smith was an all-state prep football player at Lake Central High in northwest Indiana. He graduated in 2001 and played in the annual Indiana North-South All-Star game that summer.

--Danny Sabock is coaching linebackers. He came to Indiana State from Rutgers, where he was a member of the school's football support staff. He played collegiately at Elmhurst College.

--Pat Burke is the assistant offensive line coach.

Ray Smith was coached in high school by former Sycamore Bob Komara....

Here is an email from Bob about Ray Smith....

"I was Ray's position coach at Lake Central, what a great person to have at our University.
I currently coach at Andrean H.S. in Merrillville. I played four years at ISU 1965-68.

Bob Komara"

So two of those guys come from Northern Illinois. Interesting. Looks like we've got a very young staff overall. Hopefully that leads to up tempo, high intensity practices.
