I complained about it at the first game when I got charged $7.00 for a popcorn and diet pepsi. I have decided that I will not be purchasing concessions in the futuret because of the inflated prices and the piss poor selection.

We are the same way... We always tried to buy something at the concessions... just to do a little more to help the program... but a $4 coke and $3 popcorn is just ridiculous.. Won't buy any more.

And I agree that they should have more selection.... they won't let you bring coffee in, yet they don't sell it?? C'mon! Take advantage of a lot of the local food!! NO REASON that they can't sell Rex Coffee, Rick's Smokehouse BBQ, Sycamore Sliders (Terminal Name) and especially Bally BBQ Pizza!

Since I was unable to connect with any tailgating group yesterday, I bought a $3 hotdog when I went into the stadium because I was famished.... made the comment that it wasn't priced that bad (I am used to Conseco or Luc pricing) and then said-- it was damn good too. Walked back down a few minutes later and bought another. However.....I would never pay $4 for a soft drink, no way!

$3 hot dog IS acceptable... $4 brat is also acceptable.

$3 POPCORN is not. (it's not even in a special box or anything... not kettle corn, etc.. nothing special about it).
$4 32oz drink is not.
$3 water is not.

And... there WAS coffee and hot chocolate at the football stadium... those options are not available at Hulman Center.

I'm sure there are people that might buy $5 bowl of chili too..

The selection complaints are valid, but the price is the price. It's your choice to buy it. Go to Lucas Oil or Conseco $5.50 Cokes $4.50 hot dogs.... I do think that it would be nice for a local business to buy concession space but the $ the hulman center would have to charge would be substantial.

I could deal with the prices if the selection was adequate, but its not. We probably have the worst selection of concessions around. At least at a place where you pay high prices like Conseco and Lucas Oil you get a higher quality of food and a much larger variety.

They dont have Coke, it is all Pepsi which is another reason I dont get anything at the games. Pepsi is just not very good

I started to get a hot chocolate at the football game yesterday but then I took one look at it and it was $2.00 for a very small cup coffee was the same price . I am not cheap but I am not really that into paying 20 times the cost to make a cup of coffee or hot chocolate either.

If you feel strongly about this, by all means contact Sodexo and let them know how you feel. I would ask that you NOT complain to the folks working the concessions. For those who don't know, all of those folks are volunteers who are working to raise money for non-profit groups. None of them are paid and none of them have any control over prices or selection. They donate their time to raise funds for charity.

Are you saying that ISU gains nothing from the concessions? Is that true for both Memorial Stadium and the Hulman Center?

Not what he said at all... re-read the post.
The people that work at the concession stands are volunteers.
Sodexo sets the prices for the concession items.

Yes. To the best of my knowledge, it is all contracted thru Sodexo. Our elementary school PTA used to work one of the stands at HC and everything was controlled by Sodexo and we received a percentage for our non-profit after every game. I don't know what the relationship/contractual agreement is between Sodexo and ISU except that they cater all food events on campus.

Sodexo is the exclusive food service on campus. All catering, concessions, etc. are provided through Sodexo. They are also the company that provides food service in the residence halls...

I know what he said. I was asking if ISU gained monetarily or if all proceeds went to the non-profit and Sodexo.

I am pretty sure ISU gets a cut of the money through concessions...I would bet that most D-1 schools have their concessions outsourced to some company.

And for people complaining about prices, were a Division One athletic program. Hell its 1.50-2.00 bucks for a drink at a high school game, so 2.50 or 3.50 isn't that bad for a drink at a Division One athletic program..

Are you going to say concession prices are the reason Hulman Center and Memorial Stadium have low attendance numbers?

Not sure if it's exactly the same, but one of the options we have with Sodexo is for groups (PTA's, student groups, etc) to come in and work for a split. Basically, Sodexo covers their initial costs....and then it's like an 80/20 or 90/10 split to the organization. Depending on how their contract is written up with ISU, I'm sure that ISU receives a percentage of the concessions, which may be tied into their "cost" or might be a percentage of the 10/20% profit after costs. As the team gets better and crowds grow (i.e. going into next year)...I'm sure the athletic department (if it's a year to year contract) will suggest a higher percentage. In the end, a good chunk of concession revenue probably goes to the organizations working and ISU athletics...with a portion also going to Sodexo (obviously).

This all seems kinda silly to me. If you go eat at Appleby's you're probably paying $2.49 for a coke. I'd wager that you're not going to find cheaper prices anywhere else in the Valley. If you don't want to pay, eat before the game.

Reading the posts I believe that's what they are doing. I personally eat before the game and grab a popcorn and nasty Diet Pepsi. Just couldn't part with 2 bucks for a 6 oz hot chocolate Hell Starbucks is cheaper than that
