My source tells me that the bug the guys were dealing with at Intercollegiates has worked its way out, and the team had very hard practices during its off week. But the workouts went well and they are ready to go!

:sycamores:

I'm going up with the team.....

Leaving this afternoon. Looking for us to put a beat-down on some high profile Division I schools tomorrow! It is so cool to watch Sycamores run past kids from Florida, Notre Dame, Arizona, etc. Competition at the highest level! Excellent!

Go Trees!

Sycamore women finish 3rd behind Oakland (CA) & West Virginia.

looking a little closer at the men's results, ISU beat 4 nationally ranked teams in this meet...

#14 Villanova
#18 Arizona State
#27 Butler
#34 Washington

teams ahead of ISU and their national rankings

#3 Oregon
#16 New Mexico
#21 Florida State
Tulsa (unranked)
Penn State (unranked)
#30 UCLA
Notre Dame (unranked)
#5 Alabama
Texas El Paso (unranked)

needless to say, there should be some shakeups in the regional and national polls come Monday night.

Interesting results. We got what will likely be some schweet points. Nice job against a team that certainly could Auto-Qualify (Villanova) Become a big Nova fan now! Same goes for Arizona State, whose coach, Louie Quintana, went to Villanova- go Wildcats!

Our 1-3 look great. Our 1-5 is fine for October 1st-Vaughn and Betz are tough and talented- they'll be rolling dirty with the top 3 in one month.

I always look at our 6>8 this early. Our gap was :52- but 1-7 was :97! We have a :90 gap 5-8! I just worry about the unknown- one injury and it gets scary- our 6-7-8 need to be a lot closer!

Women are getting exciting- Same tune with the 5-8. Andy ran a solid 5th today- that really helps. Gap of :45 is ok.

You x country people speak a different language to me but I am pretty proud of ISU cross country!

The 1-3, 1-5, etc refer to the positions the State runner finish; in X-Cty, the scoring is by race finish position; so, if our first three runners finish 1-2-3 in a race, we've score 6 points.

X-Cty is one of the few sports where the lower score is better than a higher score. Usually, a team (School's) score is based on their first 5 finishers;
so if our guys finish 3-6-8-11-13, our score is: 41 points

A runner can qualify (as an individual) by scoring/finishing with the required time in designated races.

SECTION 7. Scoring
Team Composition
ARTICLE 1. A cross country team may consist of 12 runners, or more if
otherwise agreed upon.
Team Scoring
ARTICLE 2. a. All runners who finish a race shall be given an overall-finish
place. However, only the first seven runners on any one team may be
used in scoring places. An order for team-finish placing is established by
removing all runners behind the top seven finishers on each team. Those
teams not finishing at least five runners likewise shall not be included in
the order of team finish.
b. The score shall be determined by totaling the points of the first five
runners of each team to finish. The team scoring the lower number of
points shall be the winner.
c. Although the sixth and seventh runners of a team to finish do not score
points toward their team’s total, their places, if better than those of any
of the first five of an opposing team, serve to increase the team score of
the opponents.
d. Ties in team scoring shall not be broken, except for advancement to the
championships finals.
Note: Advancement criteria to the NCAA national championships meets
will be in the current year’s NCAA Men’s and Women’s Cross Country
Championships Handbooks.
