From that article...

I am hoping to do a q-and-a before Wednesday's game against Indiana State, but I need questions. Send them to me via Twitter (@michaelpointer) or to [email protected].

He is the Butler beat writer -- that wasn't for Indiana State fans. I mean, you're certainly welcome to send them, but he won't have anything but cursory knowledge of the Sycamores or what he reads on GoSycamores or here.

Going to be a another huge test but I love the fact that we are playing the likes of Illinois,Memphis and Butler all in a row! This type of of competition builds team character and is better than getting wins against the likes of Prairie Views of the hoops world.

Right. So if anyone would like to ask the Butler beat writer questions about our opponent, there's his contact info and his invitation.

Hey guys, Butler fan here. While it's nice that Butler's ranked in the Top 25 of the AP poll this week, it really couldn't come at a worse time. Butler NEVER plays well at the Hulman Center. Butler's 2007 Sweet Sixteen team, who had already beaten IU, ND and Purdue went to Terre Haute and lost to what would become a 13-18 Indiana State squad. Butler fans, while thinking that we should win, don't feel terribly confident about this one. It'll be interesting to see how this one plays out, though IMO the game will be won or lost at the foul line. Indiana State relies heavily on getting to the line to score points, Butler isn't particularly deep and we already have a deep mistrust for MVC refs after a couple of bracketbuster games when they meant a lot to both conferences and schools (SIU in 07, Drake in 08).

Wish I could do more than just listen to this one on the radio, but that's what I get for being outside of Indy I guess. Watched the Sycamores against Memphis the other night and was impressed with their resiliency once they got down by a lot at halftime. If Butler is going to win this one, they'll have to earn it.

Thanks for the post. We don't feel like this is a good time for us. We have some veterans in the tank and some young guys that need more time. I just hope we can make a good game of it. I saw Butler against UNC and their D and board work was very impressive.

Seeing what I've seen so far.....I'm thinking if we can finish the season .500 or better, that would be quite an accomplishment. We just don't have enough perimeter scoring. I've compared this team a little to the 2010-11 team, but that squad had a lot of guys who could make 3s consistency.....Carter, Printy, Lathan and even Richards.....Carter and Printy both made over 50 three pointers for the season......do we have one guy who might make 50 this year??

Team Stat Comparison:

2010-11 Season Stats......36% on 3s......43% from the field
2014-15 so far..................28% on 3s.......38% from the field

If we don't pick it up offensively, especially from outside the paint, it's going to be along season......

I don't agree, but I have no evidence to back me up. I think Scott, Etherington, Bennett, Prusator, and Gant can all be effective from outside.
Scott has his HS record for 3's and we all know what Bennett did last year. I certainly haven't quit believing. I think we have other concerns like players finding their roles, passing the ball and reducing TO's.

I have a mistrust of them also after watching them screw us over for 36years. I know we didn't do ourselves any favors over the years but last year in Saint Louis was a prime example. Odum doesn't go to the bench and the game may have been ours.

Well...I certainly hope you are right......Aaron Carter averaged 25 a game in high school, but it took him a couple of years at ISU to hit his stride...... I certainly hope Bennett and Scott can prove me wrong, but I'm getting the feeling we might see greener pastures next year....we'll see.

Oh, I agree with that. Most jucos we get improve a lot their 2nd year. And it appears that it might take a year for Scott to become "comfortable" at the D1 PG spot. I guess I'm a Pollyanna and I expect our shooting to improve before this year is over. I think the young guys will shoot better IF the upperclassmen lead the way and start shooting better. Then again, I don't know why the JRs and SRs didn't hit the ground running.

Gant and Smith are forcing it a little bit. They have yet to be able to trust their newer teammates to make plays. Gant came out against Memphis bound and determined to make up for his troubles against Illinois and (IMO) tried to do too much. Had a couple of possessions where he could have passed out for an open shot but he was determined to go to the basket. Liked his fire and stick withitness in that game, but he has to settle down a bit.

Khristian playing too much on the outside, has to drive and slash. He is not the guy to chuck a lot of 3's on this team, he has to get to the basket and use his body to score.

Against Memphis I believe Gant and Smith were a combined 0-10 from three pt range. If you take their attempts out, we shot well from three. Over the next few games, I would like to see only Prusator, Bennett, and Scott take three point attempts for the most part, at least until Gant gets his stroke back. I really don't think Khristian should ever take more than 3 three pt attempts in any game. He has never really shown himself to be a consistent threat from long range. I understand he has to hit a few to open up attempts to drive, but he shouldn't be leading the team in 3 pt attempts in any game we play.

This. Smith is an average 3pt shooter. He is most dynamic slashing and on fast breaks. No idea how to explain Gant's struggles so far other than to say he cant buy a jumper right now. He does seem to go through a lot of peaks and valleys throughout each year, so lets hope he climbs out of this valley quickly. Really thought he would be a consistent player for us this season though, wishful thinking I guess.

Gant is hurting more than helping right now. He's not guarding anyone, he's living on outside shots, and he's not showing any leadership with the younger guys. I'm not sure if he just didn't have the right mind set coming into the season or what. Even if you aren't hitting shots, play some D, get after EVERY loose ball and rebound. Lead by example rather than being a withering flower.
I agree that Smith is pressing a little bit. He just needs to let the game come to him.
Let's talk overall team stuff. We dribble the air out of the ball at times rather than moving it with passing. Our screening is lacking (both ball and off ball) but sometimes our use of the screens is even worse. On offense we often stand around too much. Move without the ball gentlemen!
We don't grab loose balls (see dribbling comment). If something is loose, we immediately try dribbling it and too often don't secure possession. We have no interior presence. Yes Kitch had a big game recently, but until I see a consistent contribution, I'll maintain my current stance. People may consider some of these things growing pains, but they are pretty much high school fundamental stuff.
I wasn't sure we'd have a great year this year, but we could certainly be doing things much better than we are currently. This game should be a good barometer of our fortitude. How will we respond coming off our most recent showing with an opportunity to really ignite a large home crowd? It's time for unselfishness and physical toughness!

One more thought. I would LOVE for the team to make me eat these words... Go Trees - Beat the Bulldogs!
