I like your rankings, but I might be inclined to put Purdue up there at #4. Here's my shot, with just a few changes from yours:

1. Indiana State (if our inside game develops and we shoot a little better than last year and I'm a homer):firstplace:
2. IU (they lost a lot, but are obviously one of the top two):secondplace:

==================BREAK=======================

3. Notre Dame (all Brey does is win 25 games every year):thirdplace:

==================BREAK=======================

4. Purdue (Painter will have them on the up swing):munch:
5. Butler (new coach, new league, maybe a bit down this year?):tomatoes:

==================BREAK=======================

6. Evansville (MVC is tough, Marty is a good coach, they'll be tough)
7. Valpo (just because you can win the Horizon League doesn't mean you're better than MVC teams...)
8. Ball State (I hate even typing that name...)

==================BREAK=======================

9. IUPUI
10. IPFW

1. Notre Dame - And it's really not even close.

2. IU - Young but solid. They will make some noise.

3. Indiana State - We will hold our own against anyone in the nation this year.

4. Butler - Will be Butler, Hinkle the toughsst place to win in college hoops.

5. Purdue - On the rise, going to be a contender again very soon.

The rest need to do more to be in the conversation - top 5 quite a bit better than the rest.

6. Evansville
7. Valpo
8. Ball State
9. IPFW
10. IUPUI

ND - they won't win any beauty contests but they are always very good. Brey is a hell of a coach.

IU - lost a lot but they will have some phenomenal athletes that we all have to suffer hearing about for a year.

ISU - we know what we have

NEXT TIER

Purdue - terrible last year but should be much improved. maybe a year or two away from being in the dance again.

Butler - who knows how Butler will respond in the Big East and without Brad at the helm. should be an interesting 4 years for them

NEXT TIER

Evansville - Colt was huge for their program but i think they still have a solid enough base to be middle pack in the MVC for a while.

UNKNOWNS

Valpo - they have been good for a few years, but havn't they lost a lot???????

Ball State - know idea
IPFW - know idea
IUPUI - know idea

Thank you for the ISU-M comment. It is sad that so many have no idea how bitter this rivalry once was. A rebirth of this rivalry would be good for the Cardinals, the Sycamores and the state of Indiana.

What is sad that many of you can't let go... A simple post about the top teams - of which no one besides me has even been close to correct turns into an OMG of Indiana State vs. Creation of Balls State, get over it - this thread isn't about
that.

Anyone want to talk basketball on this old ass forum??

And why has ITF (who is a great American) who
Picked ISU to be the best team in the state have two "thanks/likes" WTF is wrong with you people? At what point did we prove we were better than IU and ND? Oh yeah I forgot! LMAO Get real

Now that's a great post. One part arrogant, one part insulting, and a pinch of ageism! Add it all up, and what do you get? :rant:

ISU has the potential to go higher, but lets see it first. I think we are all tired of hype etc....live up to it or be mediocre for another year....

Why would anybody NOT place our beloved trees anywhere but first. THIS IS Sycamore Pride... Show some of it. And for those who put Clappy the Clown and the boyz in the clown pants ahead of us........................................................................:razz:

Ummmm???

He asked us to "rank" the teams and although he wasn't specific I don't think he intended us to order in terms of our favorite team, that would be a pointless exercise on SycamorePride.

Shame I had to explain that to someone, I thought it was pretty clear what was taking place. The day people come on here and start pretending Indiana State is better than what they are is the day I walk away.

Indiana State has done NOTHING to prove they are better than IU or Notre Dame. It's a pre season ranking, which means - how do the teams look prior to any games being played - again shame I have to explain this. Hopefully once we beat ND then the question can be asked again... The rankings will then look different.

Last I understood SycamorePride didn't also = Sycamore Delusional...

If I remember, we'll re-visit this thread after the non-conference and then after the regular season and see how we did...IPFW will be 29-0 by then.

The end of last season was about as low as I've seen this fan base regarding basketball. There is something to be said for people coming back and being so optimistic. I admire the faith, optimism, hope, whatever you want to call it, but the only argument I see here for us to be so good is we have everyone back. Yes, everyone who underachieved, failed to play as a team and finished poorly last year. I see potential and I'm hopeful, but that's as far as I'll go. Not sure where that ranks us compared to everyone else, but we have to prove ourselves this year.

For me, the optimism is that the team is older and I saw what they are capable of doing when they destroyed creighton in Terre Haute. I know they sucked the rest of the year, but they did show what they are capable of. It's a new season. Why not us?
