Indiana State has a strong schedule compared to other MVC teams. First, the D1 "Pseudo" RPI rankings:

#34 Wichita State
#73 Indiana State
#78 Evansville
#154 Creighton
#161 Bradley
#170 Illinois State
#231 Missouri State
#266 Southern Illinois

For the complete RPI Ranking link to: http://www.boydsworld.com/baseball/rpi/currentrpi.html

Now for the ISR Ranking, which lists only five MVC teams:

#25 Wichita State
#52 Indiana State
#121 Evansville
#145 Illinois State
#165 Missouri State
#202 Southern Illinois
Note: I didn't see Creighton or Bradley as only teams that have played at least 10 D1 games so far this season are listed.

NOW...the big question is, "What does this all mean?" For those who understand these figures (not me), please chime in!

If it is calculated the same as hoops RPI, here is how you break it down:

Part 1: is 25 percent of the formula. This is team winning percentage. For the 2005 season, the NCAA added a bonus/penalty system. A home loss or road win is multiplied by 1.4. Neutral games count 1.0.

Part 2: is 50 percent of the formula. This is the average opponents' winning percentage. Each opponent's winning percentage has to be calculated separately and averaged. Not calculated from the opponents' combined record.

Part 3: is 25 percent of the formula. This is the average opponent's winning percentage. Take all the opponents part II values and averaging them. Note: Only games against other teams playing a mostly D1 schedule count when computing the RPI.

Put quite simply, RPI is a method of ranking teams based on the opponents that a team plays.

It's still pretty early for any of these figures to be meaningful, but they work themselves out pretty well as more games are played.
WarrenNolan.com has the Sycamores at #58. Only three MVC teams in the top 100 by his numbers - which means we are probably looking at a one bid league unless someone upsets a clear cut champ in the tourney.
