here's a man that had a career spanning several years in professional basketball who had money. the first knee-jerk reaction by bent20 was that he had this money because he was a drug dealer. there was nothing in the article that indicated foul play or illegal means by which Akinkunle made the $100,000 that was lost. but a black guy with $100k in cash? "must be a drug dealer!!!"

Hammer - I can see why you would call me on that. It's fair. I often point out racial biases on this board, so I get it. In this case though, it truly has nothing to do with race. After 12 years of covering courts as a newspaper reporter, I know drug rip offs are common and not many people carry around $100,000 in cash, regardless of how rich they are.

Hmmmmm, so a bunch of guys randomly ransacked his home, stole $100,000 in cash, his safe, his vehicle and other stuff in the middle of the afternoon while he was home and he had no idea who they were. Sorry, maybe it's all of the years of hanging out in the courthouse that's making me a cynic but this just confirms my original assumption.

Earlier I made a comment about there "must be more to the story" and at that time, I didn't know if he was black, white, Hispanic or purple for that matter. You guys are stretching the whole issue if you ask me. There were some borderline comments on here but get over it and move on. This kind of assumption will be a regular occurrence on here anyway and it is hard to say who is making racial comments and who is not. My suggestion? Forget it and move on.

I appreciate your intent Bally, but when it comes to race, it really needs to be discussed openly. People shouldn't shy away from the topic. That said you usually can't make much headway when the discussion is dominated by a bunch of anonymous caucasians. In the past, that has ended very, very badly.
