SAY IT AINT SO!!! Good guy I know players liked him. More importantly he did a great job. Any Idea why North Texas? I know Texas is football crazy.

any time an assistant leaves a school for the same position at another schools, it has to be money more than likely.

This type of problem is where the capital campaign comes into play....more funding equals more options for scholarships and keeping our favorite coaches....bummer to hear about Mike leaving.

I don't blame these guys for moving on. You have to know it's coming with guys that experienced. Your hope is that they spread the word about Trent and our program and it leads to us getting more quality guys, not only as coaches, but maybe some recruits as well. It can be a positive as well, but there is no doubt it would be absolutely awesome to keep them for more than a season or two.

If it happens, I'm not mad at Mike......

He's a friend and I wish him the best in everything that he does. But I just wish that Indiana State can keep a coaching staff together, whole, for more than just one season.

I understand most of the moves. You lose guys to Notre Dame, Mississippi, Kentucky and now possibly North Texas. That's going to happen. But I just wish that the Sycamores could keep a group together for awhile.

We had great assistant coaches back in the day when I worked at Indiana State and we kept them around for awhile. Guys like Pete Hoener, Dave McGinnis, Steve Brickey, Bobby Turner, Mark Smith, Dave Magazu, Marty Fine, Tim McGuire, Bruce Cowdrey, Jerry Boyce, Max Payne, Alvin Reynolds.

Sure all, or most of those guys, moved onto bigger and better things with other programs either on the collegiate level or in the NFL. But at least they stuck it out at Indiana State for more than just one season.

Like I said. I don't begrudge Mike for leaving for a better salary. But Indiana State has to do something that allows Trent to keep a complete coaching staff together for more than just one season.

I suppose the upside of this situation is just as bent20 said - the network that can be built could pay dividends, assuming those who leave are leaving on good terms. This network could sure help us get better assistants, better recruits, or transfers.

The downside is that I really think our coaching won us a few games this year. I would like to believe that is all Trent Miles, but with the wealth of experience he had in the coaching staff, you gotta think that the assistants played a big part.

But, we have kept our coordinators thus far, so that has to be a plus, right?

I don't have anything official or even a good enough source to go with this in the paper, but for the blog it's good enough.

Justin Frye is headed to Temple with former Florida assistant coach Steve Addazio, according to a UNT official.

All indications are UNT has turned to Mike Simmonds to take his place. Simmonds spent time at South Florida.

Simmonds is a solid college coach with skins on the wall. Funny how we keep saying that about new members of UNT's coaching staff.

UNT should be set to announce its last couple of hires once they sign contracts that make their way through the legal department. I put in a Freedom of Information Request to the legal department a few days ago, and the whole place is shut down until after the new year.

It could be a few days before this all becomes official.
